Yamaha has introduced three 2021 audio/video receivers in its Aventage RX series, each of which features extensive support for high frame rate HDMI 2.1 gaming, HDR and 3D surround sound.

The Aventage models include the RX-A8A, RX-A6A and RX-A4A, each offering some of the most extensive support of the new HDMI 2.1 features to date. Each model sports seven inputs and three outputs supporting up to new high frame rate (8K60/4K120) capability, in addition to ALLM, VRR, eARC and other new gaming and A/V features.

The series also boasts a new design with simplified modern styling, anchored by a center volume knob, and high-resolution LCD readout.

Other common features include: extensive immersive 3D audio support for DTS:X and Dolby Atmos, the later with height virtualization, Yamaha’s proprietary Surround:AI technology and 64-bit sound processing.

The RX-A8A ($2,999.95 suggested retail), RX-A6A ($2,199.95) and RX-A4A ($1,299.95), support multi-channel speaker set-ups of up to 11-, 9- and 7-channels , respectively. All three models will begin shipping this summer.

Each Avenage RX-series model continues Yamaha’s well documented attention to vibration dampening and continues the long-time use of the signature Aventage “fifth foot”. This Anti-Resonance Technology wedge promotes more efficient dispersion of chassis vibration.

Each model includes 8K/60, 4K/120, 4K/60, HDMI 2.1 and HDR10+ support for greater compatibility with the latest advanced video displays and source devices.

In addition to high frame rate capability, the extensive use of HDMI 2.1 ports in each model extends to such features as auto low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rates (VRR), quick frame transport (QFT) and quick media switching (QMS).

Each model include the Qualcomm QCS407 quad-core processor designed to deliver high quality cinematic sound for a wide variety of audio content.

On the visual side, all inputs support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (the latter via firmware update) high dynamic range (HDR) profiles with dynamic metadata, in addition to HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG).

The three models also offer Dolby Atmos with Height Virtualization, simulating the overhead sound experience for an immersive, 360-degree sound field in a number of speaker configurations. The RX-A8A and RX-A6A also offer Auro-3D surround that creates virtual, three-dimensional soundscapes.

All models feature Yamaha’s proprietary Surround:AI technology that analyzes the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) parameters and optimizes in real time each sound element, including dialog, background music and sound effects. The aforementioned Qualcomm QCS407 chip offers 64 bits of power for added depth and realism, and each model includes a Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) R.S.C. multi-point measurement, precision EQ and a new low frequency mode, the company said.

This combines to monitor and automatically adjust speaker output for distances, listening positions, volume balance and acoustic parameters.

Yamaha said it has also made enhancements to the internal circuit design, mechanical structure and component parts selected for the series. This is said to include: symmetrical amplifier layout for optimized signal paths, improving sound clarity while reducing signal noise and cross-channel interference.

The company said the transformer is mechanically isolated from the amplifier stages with a separate mounting bracket for greater vibration reduction, which contributes additional rigidity to the internal H frame structure.

Yamaha said tonal balance is achieved through high-quality parts, including Premier Audio DACs from SABRE for extraordinary signal-to-noise ratio and up to 120 dB dynamic range for pro-quality audio.

A high slew rate amplifier with more than double the performance of the previous generation, is also added. The circuit design is said to achieve both a high slew rate and stable signal transmission, allowing it to respond to rapid changes of input levels with precision and accuracy.

All new Aventage models continue to include Yamaha’s MusicCast wireless multi-room music streaming and app control, including support for Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, built-in music streaming services, multi-room audio and voice control via Alexa, Google and Siri-enabled devices.
