For years Vizio would invite the press to see their latest TV line at an off-site venue during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This year, Vizio dispensed with the showing. Rather than wait for a formal announcement, we’ve obtained from our industry sources the retail prices, release dates, specs, and a photo of the new 65-inch model (above).

The line is called the “M” series, and offers 8 screen sizes from 43-inches ($599) to 80-inches ($3,999). While all have 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, there are no quantum dots for a wider color gamut, nor high dynamic range capabilities that will be available from other vendors in select 4K models. 3D is also omitted. Like Vizio’s 2014 4K UHD “P” series, the “M”s offer LCD panels using full array LED backlighting with local dimming. The 65-inch has 32 dimmable zones. Based on the specifications, it employs a 10-bit LCD panel.
Vizio does not provide a native refresh rate, however its spec sheet states it does not have Vizio’s “Smooth Motion,” which is their term for Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation, a circuit found in all native 120 Hz 4K UHDTVs. Vizio states 240 Hz SPS, (SPS is a Vizio marketing term, we have been unable to find a definition).
