Vizio revealed Tuesday its 2018 P-Series and P-Series Quantum 4K Ultra HD LED LCD TVs, the latter of which will be the company’s first 4K television in the P series to feature the use of Quantum Dot technology for wider color saturation levels.

Vizio released model information and specs on its web site showing that its 2018 65-inch “P-Series Quantum” 4K Ultra HD LED LCD TV will carry the quantum dot nano-particles that provide a boost to color saturation in LED-LCD TV applications. This is similar to technology that Samsung has promoted aggressively through its SUHD and QLED model tiers over the last several years.

Quantum Dots are also starting to appear in lines of some Chinese TV brands, most notably in Hisense’s flagship 4K LCD TV line in the United States, as competitive alternatives to 4K OLED.

The 2018 65-inch P-Series Quantum 4K Ultra HD LED LCD TV will be available this summer at a $2,199.99 suggested retail price.

Vizio also introduced a new regular 2018 P-Series line with a 55-inch model ($899.99 suggested retail) a 65-inch model ($1,299.99) and a 75-inch model ($2,499.99).

The 65-inch “P-Series Quantum” features quantum dot enhancement film to deliver the widest gamut and color saturation levels of any of the company’s TVs this year. The regular P-Series models use a custom phosphor LED to achieve a wider color gamut. The P Series Quantum places Quantum Dot film sandwiched between the LEDs and the LCD panel to achieve the wider color saturation levels. Vizio did not indicate percentage of DCI-P3 gamut coverage.

All of the 2018 Vizio P-Series models feature full-array LED backlighting with local dimming technology. The company said that the P-Series models have up to 120 LED dimming zones and will produce a peak brightness output of up to 1000 nits. The P-Series Quantum model has 192 zones and will produce a peak brightness output of up to 2000 nits. All models will support Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) in addition to HDR10.

The P series sets this year add a Spatial Scaling Engine and a “960 Clear Action” (P-Series Quantum) and “720 Clear Action” (P-Series) motion smoothing system. The company did not release the native refresh rates of the panels.

For smart TV applications, the 2018 P-Series models use an new enhanced SmartCast operating system with built-in Google Chromecast support. The TVs also include a built-in ATSC 1.0 over-the-air broadcast tuner.

The new SmartCast OS supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice-powered AI to control a variety of smart home devices in addition to TV operations. The 2018 SmartCast OS debuts today on all 2018 Vizio smart TVs and will continue to roll out via free cloud-based updates to all 2016 and 2017 Vizio SmartCast 4K Ultra HD models, Vizio said.

In other news, Vizio introduced three new sound bars with Dolby Atmos and Chromecast audio support that will start shipping this summer at prices to be announced later.

Dolby Atmos is an object-based audio surround sound format that makes on-screen objects sound as if they are moving around the listener, including overhead.

The sound bars are available in a 46-inch version with 5.1.4 surround sound effects, with five representing the front, center and rear channels, one representing the sound bar’s wireless subwoofer, and four representing four reflected overhead channels.

Other models include a 46-inch 3.1.2 version, and a 36-inch 5.1.2 channel version. All three models feature a sound bar that sits below a flat-screen TV, and a wireless subwoofer, which can be placed nearby on the floor
