Universal Enhances Bonus Content On Physical Discs
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is making its bid to preserve the attraction of physical media and home media ownership by adding new bonus feature enhancements to its Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc and DVD titles.
Beginning with the release of horror film Us on June 18th, Universal is adding prominently positioned bonus features menus on the opening screen of the Ultra Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc and DVD copies of the title, Media Play News first reported.
The features will be presented in the form of visual clips, taking the place of the usual text descriptors, which disc owners can click on with their remote for instant access to the feature.
In addition, Universal has chosen to make supplemental features begin auto playing at the end of the feature film to hold viewer interest.
Media Play News quoted Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Hilary Hoffman as saying that by evolving its products with more enhanced special feature content the studio is trying to elevate for consumers “the value in ownership and keep them connected and engaged to our products and the category.”
She added that she hopes “to see the entire industry move in this direction.”
In addition to the bonus enhancements, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray will be offered with Dolby Vision dynamic metadata-based High Dynamic Range (HDR) and static HDR10 for those whose 4K televisions or UHD Blu-ray players don’t handle Dolby Vision signals.
Among the exclusive features available with the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital versions of the movie are the following:
