Vewd, the over-the-top and hybrid TV solutions provider, announced this week that it is bringing access in supporting smart TVs to videos from Facebook Watch.

TV manufacturers that have deployed Vewd’s smart TV software can now add the Facebook Watch app globally, either through the Vewd App Store or integrated into the Vewd OS, the company said.

Facebook Watch is Facebook’s video-on-demand service that combines aspects of its video-sharing functionality with premium content. Facebook Watch offers a number of popular streaming shows including: Red Table Talk, Red Table Talk: The Estefans, Steve on Watch and Peace of Mind with Taraji. It also offers top trending videos, live gaming streams, music videos and other fare.

The Vewd App, formerly known as Opera TV, is an online storefront and browser that specializes in apps optimized for TV. The Vewd App runs apps from the cloud and includes video, music, social networking, games, and news.

Vewd App or App Store-supporting TV manufacturers and brands known in the United States include: Hisense, Vestel, Sharp, Skyworth, Toshiba, Haier, Hitachi, JVC, and Philips. Note that not all of these brands’ model series may support Vewd. Vewd tends to have a bigger following in markets outside of North America.

The Vewd OS can also be optimized by device suppliers to be optimized for Android TVs.

The company claims nearly 40 million Vewd-enabled TVs, set-top boxes, game consoles, and cars ship globally each year, and more than 350 million connected TV devices have been deployed in the market to date.

“Facebook Watch offers an impressive line-up of content that keeps viewers coming back for more,” stated Vewd CEO Aneesh Rajaram. “We’re pleased to work with Facebook to scale their app distribution across our Smart TV and pay-TV customer base. Our end-to-end OTT software approach combined with our unique market position enables video platforms like Facebook to increase their reach, deploy in new markets and help people discover new video content tailored to their interests and social connections.”
