China-based TV, electronics and smartphone manufacturer TCL recently released interim sales and performance data for the first half of 2021 showing the brand rankings No. 3 in the world for TVs as it continues to grow its international businesses.

TCL Technology Group issued a 1H 2021 presentation data with charts for overall global TV market share (citing data from Omdia and Sigmaintell) indicating TCL’s TV brand share for the first two quarters of the year rose 1 percentage point to 11.6%, behind No. 1 Samsung at 21.5% (from 20.5% for the same period in 2020) and LG Electronics at 14% (up from 11.1% for the same period in 2020).

The rest of the top 5 included Hisense at 9.1% (down from 9.2%) and Xiaomi at 5.6% (down from 6.1%).

On Tuesday, TCL North America introduced its first TVs running the Google TV user interface joining previously announced ranges of Roku TVs in the United States, as the company looks to expand its overseas sales for models of both platforms. It plans to further introduce a model based on its new OD Zero ultra-thin mini-LED panel technology later this year.

Overall, TCL Technology Group showed consolidated revenue of CNY74.299 billion ($11.45 billion) and net profit of CNY6.784 billion for the first half of 2021, up a whopping 153.29% and 461.55% respectively.

Within that, the company’s flagship subsidiary China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), which produces display panels, accounted for CNY40.8 billion of the consolidated revenue total and CNY6.61 billion net profit.

The reports showed CSOT shipped 27.77 million TV-use panels up 20% for the year on year with total display area of 16.99 million square meters, up 24% on year.The corresponding six months of sales totaled of CNY28.2 billion up 132% on year.

CSOT shipped 48.99 million small- to medium-size panels with total display area of 800,000 square meters for sales of CNY10.6 billion in the first half of 2021, increasing 25%, 51% and 45% respectively on year.

According to the company’s reported financial data, CSOT has two 8.5 Gen production lines for TFT-LCD panels, a 6 Gen line for LTPS TFT-LCD panels and a 6 Gen line for LTPS-AMOLED panels, and an 11 Gen line for high-resolution TFT-LCD/AMOLED panels. The company is scheduled to add four new production lines by the end of 2024.
