Sony introduced Tuesday its ZV-E10 interchanageable lens camera (ILC) designed for video creators and vloggers, offering the benefits Sony ZV-1 together with compatibility with Sony E-mount lenses.

The Sony ZV-E10 camera is based on a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sized image sensor and offers what Sony said are “multiple innovative shooting modes—including Product Showcase that allows the camera to automatically shift focus from the subject’s face to an object being highlighted and background defocus, both popular vlogger-friendly features of the company’s ZV-1.

The ZV-E10 also includes a flip screen with tally light, 4K/30p video from 6K oversampling, can be recorded at up to 100 Mbps using Sony’s XAVC S codec, and 1080/120p recording is available for slow-motion. The camera supports high dynamic range (HDR) video using HLG profile capture and Sony’s S-Log3, S-Gamut 3.Cine and S-Log2.

For sound capture the ZV-E10 features a high-quality built-in 3-capsule mic, and compatibility with Sony digital microphones via the Multi-Interface Shoe.

The camera can record up to 125 minutes of video or capture a CIPA-rated 440 images on a single charge, the company said. Continuous power is available via a USB-C port.

For still photos, the camera can capture 24MP images in either RAW or JPEG format.

In addition to the flip-out screen, a zoom lever around the shutter button can operate power zoom lenses, with eight user-selectable speed settings, and digital zoom on other lenses using Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology.

Sony said the ZV-E10 can be used for direct live streaming and as a webcam without an external adapter. The camera supports the UVC/UAC video and audio standards.

The ZV-E10 will be available for expected street retail price of $700 for the body only, or as a kit with the E PZ 16-50mm OSS power zoom lens for $800.

The ZV-E10 features a lightweight form factor (approx. 12 oz.). The side-opening Vari-angle LCD Screen that allows creators to connect external mics on top of the camera. This simplifies setup while still allowing users to see the screen in selfie shooting mode and from high and low angles.

In addition to the screen, the ZV-E10 includes several other easy-to-use functions that are specifically designed for vlogging, including a new mode button located on the top of the camera that allows creators to easily change between Still/Movie/Slow and Quick modes with just one touch.

In tandem with the camera unveiling, Sony announced the 2021 Sony Vlog Challenge — with this year’s theme, “Enter My World” — where entrants are asked to create a video showing things they are most passionate and enthusiastic about in their world.

The contest period begins today and closes on Sept 27th. Four winners will be selected along with one grand prize winner, who will receive a ZV-E10 kit, a grip, media card, and the 10-18mm lens. Three additional winners will receive a ZV-E10 kit, a grip, and a media card.

Sony said judges this year will include YouTubers Sidney Diongzon, Lizzie Peirce, Hopscotch The Globe (Kristen and Siya), and Terry Warfield.
