Sony formally announced Thursday its new 2023 flagship Xperia 1 V smartphone that significantly steps up the video/still photo game using an newly advanced dual-stack CMOS image sensor.
The advanced “prosumer level” 4K HDR camera phone is designed to go up against the likes of the iPhone 14, Samsung S23 Ultra, Google Pixel 7 and others, in an increasingly competitive advanced camera phone field.
The Sony Xperia 1 V, which will carries a $1,399 suggested retail price, is designed for high-level multi-functionality, including utility as an external monitor and recorder when used in tandem with one of Sony’s Alpha mirrorless IL cameras.
Sony said the Xperia 1 V is available for pre-order now with deliveries to begin July 28th. It will be sold unlocked in black at a variety of Sony’s authorized dealers throughout the United States, and a khaki green version will be available exclusively through Sony’s web site.
Sony said the Xperia 1 V will be available in various regions in three color options of black, platinum silver and khaki green. The phone’s new styling design includes a slightly textured rubber-like back panel feel.
The phone’s built-in main camera offers granular control settings to tune in high quality still and video images.
For fans of Sony’s wired headphones, the Xperia 1 V includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is an amenity that has been mostly eliminated from competitors’ flagship smartphones.
It also features a camera button supporting a two-stage shutter release.
For durability, the Sony Xperia 1 V uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back of the phone and a metal frame. The screen comprised of a 6.5-inch 21:9 4K HDR OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The 24mm 52-megapixel (48MP effective) main image sensor measures 1/1.35 inches, which is approximately 70% larger than the one used in the previous generation Xperia 1 IV. The design contributes to better light sensitivity with less low-light noise.

The phone’s secondary cameras offer a new telephoto module with continuous zoom capability of between 85mm and 125mm. An additional 12-megapixel 1/1.35-inch ultra-wide 120fps OIS/AF camera is also included.

The phone comes with Android 13OS, and comes loaded with Sony’s pro-grade creator-centric apps: Photography Pro, Videography Pro, Cinema Pro, and Music Pro.

For specs, the Xperia 1 V lists 5G Sub6 support, 12GB RAM, 256GB standard ROM storage capacity, support for a microSD card of up to 1TB capacity, and central Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is designed to support more advanced image sensors, with heat dissipation.
