Sony recently introduced a “Video Creator Kit” targeting vloggers and video creators in need of a “run-and-gun” solution.
The Sony RX100 III Video Creator Kit, which ships this month at a $799.99 suggested retail price, is described as “a powerful new tool” for video creators that is based around Sony’s Cyber-shot RX100 III camera.
The all-in-one kit solution features an RX100 III, with a 180-degree tiltable LCD screen, 1-inch Exmor R sensor, BIONZ X processor and 24-70mm F1.8-2.8 ZEISS Lens. The bundle also includes a remote grip that doubles as a mini tripod, a 64GB SD Memory Card and an extra NP-BX1 battery to extend shooting time.
The DSC-RX100 III is equipped with an F1.8-2.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens with 24-70mm zoom. The wide- and medium-telephoto range is said to enable a wide range of videography techniques including generating defocused, high-bokeh backgrounds for closeups. A premium multi-layered T* coating also reduces ghost and flare caused by light reflection.
The DSC-RX100 III records Full HD movies in the XAVC S format and saves files as MP4, which Sony said allows for long recording times. With 50Mbps Full HD (1920×1080) up to 60p high-quality video recording, XAVC S* is sufficient to produce high quality video imagery with minimal compression noise even in scenes with a lot of movement. For added convenience and flexibility, the RX100 III also records in AVCHD and easily shareable MP4 HD video.
The included “versatile shooting grip,” model VCT-SGR1, will control capture and zoom functions directly from the grip and integrates with the RX100 III for ease of use and dynamic filming styles. The ergonomic design is comfortable for both left- and right-handed use, and the pop-out legs convert it into a mini-tripod.
A tiltable 3-inch (1,229K dots) Xtra Fine LCD Display allows monitoring composition and settings during the entire shoot, and has the ability to flip the screen 180-degrees to face the subject for selfie work.
WhiteMagic technology increases on-screen visibility in bright daylight. The large display delivers high-quality still images and movies while enabling easy focusing operation.
The pop-up electronic viewfinder (EVF) features an OLED Tru-Finder with a ZEISS T* coating that reduces lens flare and reflections that can interfere with composing and viewing stills and videos.

The backside illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, advanced BIONZ X processor and fast-F1.8-2.8 aperture lens combine for high-speed shooting and low-light versatility for stills and video. The RX100 III features a large 1.0-inch Exmor R CMOS image sensor.
The back-illuminated technology doubles light sensitivity — a great help when shooting in dimly lit environments. This reduces background noise in video and stills, even shooting night landscapes in natural light.
The RX100 III captures video in HD in the XAVC S format that allows for capturing Full HD 1080p recordings at a data rate of 50 mbps with low compression. The RX100 III can also capture 720p HD video at up to 120fps. Dual-video-recording capability also allows the camera to record in XAVC S/AVCHD along with MP4 files.
The RX100 features Intelligent Active Mode, which uses Sony’s frame rate analysis technology and 5-axis image stabilization to reduce camera shake in hand-held video shoots.
The Sony RX100 III can connect to an external monitor/recorder via HDMI simultaneously for optimal framing while recording. The shooting info display can be turned off for an even cleaner view. Frame rates include 24p, 60p and 60i.
Connectivity with smartphones for One-touch sharing/One-touch remote has been simplified with Wi-Fi/NFC control. Users can quickly transfer videos and photos to a smartphone for sharing with friends and family on social media. The camera can be controlled remotely using the free Imaging Edge app for extra creative freedom.
