From the best laid plans department: Sony revealed Wednesday night that through an association with broadcasting and distribution technology developer NeuLion, it had planned to present fight fans in the U.S. and Canada with a live 4K Ultra HD stream of UFC 200: Cormier vs. Jones 2 via the Android TV streaming platform in select Sony 2015 and 2016 4K Ultra HDTV models.

That was before fighter Jon Jones, the UFC’s No. 1 light heavy weight, was suddenly ruled out of the bout due to an allegedly suspected doping violation two days before the event. Now the title fight, which is still scheduled for July 9, 2016 from Las Vegas, will feature Brock Lesnar against Mark Hunt — the former undercard to Cormier vs. Jones.

Sony said it will be using technology from NeuLion — a company specializing in delivering on-demand streaming video — to deliver the UFC 200 event in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The fight will be offered as a pay per view event at $59.95. The same price will apply to 4K, HD and SD versions.

Alternatively, the fight will also be available for pay per view on DirecTV in 4K, HD or SD.

DirecTV is charging viewers $64.95 to view the fight in 4K; $59.95 to view it in HD; or $49.95 to watch it in standard definition (SD). DirecTV viewers also need a supporting 4K Ultra HDTV; a 4K-capable set-top box and subscription to one of the satellite service’s top two programming tiers in order to receive and view the 4K version.

Meanwhile, the fight will be available to stream by owners of 2015 and 2016 Sony smart TVs in the U.S. and Canada. To get it, Sony 4K Android TV owners will need to stream content via a UFC app, found in the Google Play store.

To view the event, Sony 4K Android TV owners need to download from the Google Play store the UFC app that uses the NeuLion Digital Platform, 4K encoder and 4K streaming CE SDK. NeuLion technology will enable streaming true 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, the company said. Sony is the first to roll out the NeuLion 4K streaming CE SDK.UFC 200.

The NeuLion Digital Platform is an end-to-end platform for streaming high-quality content in up to 4K, for premium sports and entertainment brands including: the NFL, NBA, WSL, Univision, Tribeca and others.

As for DirecTV, the fight will appear as the first 4K pay per view event offered on its new 106 4K channel. The satellite TV provider launched the channel with live 4K in April, offering coverage of the 2016 Masters golf tournament. It has also used the channel for several live Major League Baseball games in 4K.

In order to see the 4K coverage of the event on DirecTV, subscribers first will need a compatible 4K TV; a subscription to either the service’s Ultimate or Premier programming packages, which run $91.99 a month and $144.99 a month, respectively; and a Genie HR54 HD DVR.
