Sony Bows ZV-1F Entry Vlogging Camera
Sony introduced Thursday its ZV-1F, a new entry level camera in the company’s vlogger-optimized lineup.
The Sony ZV-1F will ring in at a $499 retail price when it hits retail shelves Oct. 24th, and is available for pre-order online now. It’s designed to help content creators produce content more quickly, easily and cost-effectively than using a smartphone or one of the company’s higher-end mirrorless ILCs.
The new entry price point for a Sony’s vlogging cam seats in the line below both the $700 ZV-1 and $750 ZV-E10 models.
The ZV-1F uses a Type-1 Exmor 20.1-megapixel sensor (like the ZV-1) along with a feature package designed to simplify capturing and posting vlog productions quickly and easily.
Despite the more affordable price point, the Sony ZV-1F has many of the features of the current ZV-1 model. It substitutes the ZV-1’s 24-70mm zoom lens for a wide-angle, 20mm equivalent prime lens, that will help some creators frame selfies more easily.
Other selfie-enabling amenities are a fully-articulating rear-panel LCD monitor, and the ability to capture 2x digital zooms in 1080p or 1.5x in 4K.
The camera’s electronic image stabilization system has a 1.23x crop, and a contrast-detect only autofocus system without a phase-detect option.
The ZV-1F will capture 8-bit 4K video at up to 30 fps or 8-bit 1080p at up to 120fps.
For vloggers that do a lot of product reviews, the ZV-1F include’s Sony’s popular “product showcase” feature that rapidly locks on focus when a product or subject is place in front of the lens.
Other features include an ISO range of 125 to 12,800, a front facing recording indicator LED, and a compact body design that weighs in at just over 9 ounces.
Other features from Sony’s step-up vlogging models is a bokeh switch to easily add de-focused backgrounds. Snapchat and Tik Tok content creators will find the camera has the company’s Shot Mark function that enables recording fast clips of 15-, 30- or 60-seconds and sending them on to smartphone through the mobile device app.
For audio recording the Sony ZV-1F incorporates a high-quality directional microphone with forward bias that locks on key voices or sounds when background noise is present.
The camera is available in a choice of black or white body colors.
