
Less than a week after Sony released its first freestanding Blu-ray player, (see our exclusive review below) it has announced upgrades to be available in 2007 to solve a problem the HD Guru encountered while testing the player, its inablility to play BD-R/RE recordable discs. Currently the only Blu-ray discs the BDP-S1 plays are movies pressed onto BD ROM discs.
Sony also announced a future firmware upgrade to enable the BDP-S1 to play upcoming BD-ROM discs that contain BD-Java (BD-J) applications. To learn more go to the following linkÂÂ
