Sony Alpha E-mount full-frame interchangeable lens camera owners have a new 35mm prime lens to consider adding to their collection with the release next month of the Sony FE 35mm F1.8, model SEL35F18F.
The compact, lightweight wide-aperture lens will carry a $750 suggested retail price when it ships in August.
Sony said the lens produces outstanding edge-to-edge sharpness and image quality.
It includes a linear response manual focus that allows for accurate focus control and adds an external focus-hold button on the lens to allow for quick switching between focus modes.
Sony said the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 offers a dust-and-moisture-resistant design for durability in outdoor and action-shooting use.
With the addition, Sony’s E-Mount lens catalog now numbers 52 E-Mount lenses and 34 full-frame models. The E-mount lense will work with both full-frame (35mm equivalent) and APS-C sized sensor E-mount camera bodies. When used with an APS-C E-mount body the lens will have the equivalent of a 52.5mm focal length on the 35mm camera.
As a prime lens, the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 lens will be ideal for portraits with soft bokeh backgrounds and general purpose photography. The wide aperture will provide flexibility for indoor shooting under natural room light and for shooting action images, like sports or wildlife shots.

The lens includes a quiet autofocus system with fast, accurate subject tracking performance suited to both still and video shooting.
The compact lightweight design makes it easy to carry around afixed to a camera body all day. It weighs in at 280 grams (9.87 ounces) and measures 65.6 mm/2.58 inches (diameter) by 73.0mm/2.87 inches (length).
The lens’s advanced optical construction utilizes an aspherical element to suppress aberration while delivering high resolution throughout the entire image frame. It features a 9-blade circular aperture, ideal for bokeh background effects.
The minimum focus distance of 0.22mm and maximum magnification of 0.24x is perfect for close-up photography or videography work.
