Multi-room music and speaker resource Sonos formally introduced this week its latest smart speakers in the Sonos Era 100 and Sonos Era 300, the latter bringing new “spatial audio” support to the company’s wirelessly connected speaker offerings.

The Sonos 100 is an upgrade and replacement for the Sonos One while Era 300 is a new addition to the line bringing “spatial audio” surround sound dynamics as well as the ability to be used as rear channel speakers supporting a multi-channel speaker setup when used in tandem with the Sonos Beam (up to 5.1.4-channels) or Arc (up to 7.1.4-channels with Dolby Atmos support) soundbars.

Both models are equipped with a microphone array that can leverage “Trueplay” to optimize the sound for a room’s unique acoustical dynamics when using the Sonos Android or iOS mobile device app.

Sonos said both speakers will be available starting March 28th. The Sonos Era 100 will carry a $249 suggested retail price, and the Era 300 will carry a $449 suggested retail.

The Sonos Era 100 and Era 300 each feature a new user interface with a capacitive volume slider control that complements the process of music selection and playback using the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth.

Both models are optimized for disperse musical delivery with the ability to do double duty as rear-channels for immersive home theater surround sound when paired with the company’s popular soundbars.

Sonos said the Era 300 is its first speaker to support Dolby Atmos multi-channel surround sound when used as rear channels with its soundbar. To get the full benefit, a Dolby Atmos-supporting TV with an HDMI ARC/eARC port or a Dolby Atmos-capable streaming adapter will be required.

Users will need to pair two Era 300s with the Sonos Arc Soundbar and Subwoofer to get the full 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos experience. When a pair of speakers is linked with the Sonos Beam (Gen 2), a 5.1.4-channel experience will be possible.
