Skyworth Looks To Build U.S. Outdoor TV Business At CEDIA Expo Next Month
Skyworth USA will be appearing at CEDIA Expo 2023 Sept. 6-9 in Denver to support its distribution plan for the custom integration channel by delivering its Clarus S1 premium 4K Ultra HD full-sun outdoor LCD TV line.
Led by long-time CE industry veteran Michael Gleason, Skyworth USA’s Lifestyle TV sales director, the company is now looking to build its high-end business here using a network of CI partners including custom installers looking for new sources of upscale outdoor TVs.
Now available in Canada and coming here at the end of September, the Skyworth S1 Clarus series Full Array LED-backlit LCD TVs feature 4K UHD resolution with HDR and wide color gamut support. The first Clarus prototype was first shown at CES 2023 in January, when the company announced its new upscale focus for North America by specializing in the outdoor TV niche.
Gleason, who industry veterans will remember from his time with Mitsubishi, Fujitsu and Sharp Elite, said Skyworth has identified what it sees as “a huge opportunity” to advance its television business here by addressing the under-served outdoor TV business with “a premium solution offered at a fair price.”
Skyworth plans to give CI dealers profit-generating products backed by a reliable field-support and distribution logistics.
As the global TV industry continues to show a decline in TV unit shipments and flat dollar volume for indoor applications, Gleason said the outdoor segment is poised for considerable growth, especially in the United States.
Skyworth will be going up against a relatively small group of lifestyle TV competitors led by liftestyle TV giant Samsung using a strategy to sell premium class full sun products at prices that will be closer to the competition’s partial sun offerings.
The Clarius S1 Full Sun lineup will include the 75-inch ($6999 suggested retail) and 65-inch ($4999) screen sizes. Both will ship with wall mount brackets and support the Google TV user interface with underlying Android TV v. 11 OS, offering easy system integration, setup and use, Google Assistant voice control, a large streaming app library and intuitive operation.
To perform in full sun conditions, the Clarus S1 features high brightness output of 3000 nits, support for 4K UHD resolution, a wide color gamut and high dynamic range (HDR) including support for the Dolby Vision dynamic metadata HDR profile.
To assure top performance in a range of weather conditions, the Claurs S1 is tested to withstand an operational heat range from -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. It is enclosed in a weather resistant case with an IP66 rating, assuring protection against damaging moisture (from a direct low pressure spray) as well as dust and insects.
The screen is protected by anti-glare IK10-rated tempered glass that can withstand significantly hard unanticipated impacts from spiked volleyballs, and flying debris.
The TV includes an attached soundbar solution with 100 Watts of power driving eight speakers generating two-channel audio support. The sound output is said to be loud enough to compete against typical outdoor distractions.
True custom integration-products, the Clarus models, Gleason said, are suitable for light commercial (offices and signage) applications as well as residential backyard, pool side and patio placement.
Looking forward, Skyworth is planning to follow the Clarus S1 launch an expanded lineup for the CI channel including partial sun models slated for Q1-2024.
