Amazon has started selling select models in Samsung’s 2019 QLED and 4K Ultra HD LED LCD TV lines. We have included below highlighted model number links and feature sets to make it easier to find the best option for you.
We’ve also included a comprehensive list of Samsung models and prices that are planned, but not available quite yet, to help you decide which option is best now and in a few weeks. These models will not be highlighted, but in most cases the planned price is provided for comparison.
This year, the top QLED Series — the Q90 and Q80 — will also have new technology that widens the black levels and off-axis viewing capabilities of the displays.
For background,, so-called QLED sets are equipped with a quantum dot color enhancement film placed in front of the full-array LED back lighting and inside the LCD panel stack to produce a true wide color gamut, now very close to or surpassing the DCI-P3 color space.
These are very tiny nano-sized compounds (quantum dots) comprised of inorganic heavy metals. These different sized dots produce a quantum effect in the form of bright and varying shades or red and green visible light, when excited by photons emitted by the blue LEDs in the panel. The light produced by this film is very predictable and stable, and can get very bright without saturation loss. This allows for 100% color volume.
These QLED displays don’t have a differential aging issue, like OLED and phosphor-based TVs have, where over time different colors age at different rates, impacting color accuracy, and are therefore considered by many experts to be a very good technology approach for presenting content with a wide color gamut and high dynamic range (HDR).
This year’s 4K lineup, which joins the 8K Q900R models we revealed earlier, includes an expanded range of screen sizes in many series, and more ultra-large screen TVs, in keeping with IHS global market forecasts for 75-inch or bigger TVs reaching 2.1 million units in 2018, on the way to a predicted 3 million units this year (a 43% growth rate) and 5.8 million units by 2022.
Highlighting the 4K offerings once again will be the “Q” series of QLED (quantum dot-equipped) LED-LCD TVs with will be offered in the Q60R, Q70R, Q80R and Q90R series, with screen sizes in some lines ranging from 43- to 82-inches.
All of these displays will feature full-array LED back lighting with local dimming, and many will include improvements in the LCD panel that creates deeper black levels and better fine shadow detail, while expanding the off-axis viewing angle without light bleed through into adjacent pixels.
Samsung’s new QLED 4K models also feature a Quantum Processor 4K, that uses AI upscaling technology that is said to improve brightness, picture quality and optimized sound for each scene.

In addition to presenting bright HDR images with greater shadow detail, the company has included new tools to boost video game play, including “Real Game Enhancer” using AMD Radeon Freesync variable refresh rate technology to help prevent tearing and stuttering, as well as Game Motion Plus, which removes motion blur and judder. These are among the features that will be part of the forthcoming HDMI 2.1 standard.
The Tizen smart TV system has also been updated with more advanced SmartThings compatibility to control a wide range of compatible smart home devices through the TV “hub”. This can be controlled using the improved built-in Samsung Bixby 2.0 voice control AI technology.
This year many of the sets also add compatibility with other popular voice-control AI platforms, including Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant, enabling customers who already own AI smart speakers and devices compatible with those systems to control various aspects of the televisions.
Samsung’s popular Ambient Mode that was introduced last year, has been expanded and included with 2019 QLED 4K and 8K TV models, as well as the company’s Serif TV line for the first time.
Ambient Mode complements any living space by turning a blank screen into a decorative or informational display when the TV is not in active use. It can provide daily information, like the time, weather forecast, or that latest headlines. It can also display artistic content like photos and works of art.
Samsung has also announced that it has reached an agreement with Apple to bring Airplay 2 and an iTunes app to many 2019 Samsung smart TVs. Airplay 2 also is to be added to 2018 Tizen OS-based TVs through a firmware update.
The following is a list of Samsung 2019 4K Ultra HDTVs starting with the top-performing models carrying QLED (quantum dot) color enhancement technology and the Quantum Processor 4K.
Samsung Q90 Series 82-Inch HDR 4K UHD Smart QLED TV (pictured at top)
Available screen sizes (appx. diagonal inches): 65 ($3,497.99 UPP), 75 ($4,997.99 UPP) 82 ($6,497.99 UPP)
This is the Samsung’s 2019 flagship 4K Ultra HD series and offers picture quality enhancements over last year’s Q9FN flagship line, including three-times better black level and two times better gamma compared to the 2018 Q9FN.
The sets are based on full-array LED back lighting with almost 500 zones of local dimming.
The Q90 and Q80 series models include a new LCD panel technology called “Ultra Viewing Angle” that adds a prism layer in the panel that concentrates light reaching the LCD pixels to better control light spilling into adjacent areas while improving black levels and off-axis color and contrast performance.
Other new advancements include the use of AI sound in select models. This feature involves a built-in mic pickup in the remote that gathers room sound for the AI system to analyze and make adjustments for the unique conditions of the listening environment.
