This just in from Samsung’s “It Can’t Happen Here Department:”
Samsung’s entry level 8K QLED TV series, the Q700T, which we recently reported on after it was announced by the company’s U.K. sales operations, will not be coming to the United States after all, HD Guru was told.
A company representative delivered us a terse reply to our query stating that the Q700T 8K QLED series “is not coming to the U.S., it’s a Europe-only model.”
So if you are reading this from the U.S., we’ll translate — fuhgeddaboudit!
Chin up — The series features only two screen sizes, both of which are on the smaller side for 8K resolution viewed at traditional seating distances in the home. The models also have fewer dimming zones than step-up series and are likely to appear generally dimmer than current and previous Samsung 8K QLED TVs. However, the sets do provide some step-up features from a few cheaper 4K QLED series models this year, and for that reason might be worthy of consideration to some of our readers across the pond.
Pricing in the U.K. for the Q700T starts at £1,999 (approximately $2,675) for the 55-inch version and is available online now from Samsung.com/uk. The 65-inch is being listed in the U.K. at a street price of £2,699 ($3,610)/(£2,999 suggested retail).
U.S. consumers looking to get into a Samsung 8K QLED TV will have to start out with the Q800T series, or step up to the nearly “bezel-less” design Q900TS and Q950TS 8K series.
We expect those who care to wait or stick with 4K resolution will have a wider range of affordable options in 2021, and likely with greater availability of newer features like full-bandwidth (48Gbps) HDMI 2.1 ports and additional display technologies.
Or, you can wait a few months and see what Black Friday has to offer in deals for 2020 models.
