Samsung Launches `Freestyle’ Take-Anywhere Full HD Projector
Samsung Electronics’ vice-chair and CEO Jong-Hee (JH) Han used a CES 2022 keynote address Tuesday night to formally announce the company’s launch of an innovative portable lifestyle projector, called Freestyle TV, designed to bring large video display experiences almost anywhere.
The Freestyle TV enters the Samsung Lifestyle Display product family positioned as a portable TV projector with multiple customization options. The 1080p projector will be available for pre-order at an $899 retail price on Samsung.com starting today.
The Freestyle weighs less than 2 pounds and can be easily transported from place to place. The Freestyle brings multifunctionality, including use as a portable music player, decorative lighting display, and projected big-screen video display that can be taken from room to room or even on camping trips.
The Freestyle is highly adaptable for placement anywhere from a 180-degree cradle stand to putting it on a bed and projecting content onto walls and ceilings for a screen size ranging from 30 to 100 inches.
The Freestyle includes Auto Focus and Auto Leveling features that automatically align and convert content. Viewers can project images onto an “unlimited number of surfaces.”
The base accessory even can be attached to a standard E26 light bulb socket. The Freestyle is the first portable big-screen TV that works when connected to a standard light socket without the need for additional wiring, besides compatibility with the traditional wall plug option.
Samsung said the Freestyle will output 360-degree sound. By attaching its lens cap, the projector can be used to create mood lighting synced to a favorite music playlist. Samsung is also offering an optional waterproof case and USB-C portable rechargeable batteries to take The Freestyle almost anywhere. Supporting external batteries are USB-PD and 50W/20V output or above compatible.
The Freestyle offers Smart TV features available on Samsung Tizen TVs with built-in streaming services, and mobile device mirroring/casting features for either Android or iOS products. It is the industry’s first portable projector certified by global major OTT partners, Samsung said. It is also the first projector to include far-field voice control mics, allowing users to choose favorite voice assistants for hands-free voice commands.
