Samsung’s ad-supported streaming platform, Samsung TV Plus has teamed up with the Tennis Channel to launch a new free television channel in the U.S. called T2, bringing live high-level professional tennis coverage.

T2 will be Samsung’s first free ad-supported TV (FAST) channel offered to the U.S. market, and will include year-round live sports and related content.

Tennis Channel FAST content is currently available on Samsung TV Plus in Austria, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK. This is the first such offering for U.S. audiences. However, the new U.S. channel will be different than what is available in other regions.

The channel will be available to all owners of Samsung TVs dating from 2017 and later as well as owners of Galaxy mobile devices. It will feature tennis matches and original programming that is distinct from what is available on the regular Tennis Channel.

In fact, the Tennis Channel said T2 will take a different direction in look and feel than the company’s other media properties. For starters, features and presentations will have a decidedly younger tone.

T2 will include matches from the men’s and women’s professional tennis tours – the Association of Tennis Professionals and Women’s Tennis Association – as well as select matches from the French Open and International Tennis Federation events, the companies said.

In addition to on-court competition, other programming is to include exclusive original short-form features and documentaries.

“The demand for top-level sports programming has grown even stronger as media platforms continue to evolve, and we couldn’t be happier to usher in T2, our new FAST standard, with Samsung TV Plus,” stated Ken Solomon, president, Tennis Channel explaining the new service.

“Thanks to the voluminous live-match content unique to tennis – daily, global events around the clock with often overlapping multi-court coverage – T2 lets millions of Americans watch live tennis from many of the world’s top events, all year long. There are more great matches than we can fit on Tennis Channel, making T2 and Samsung TV Plus’ innovative platform the perfect complement. It allows us to attract even more viewers to the game in an exciting new way, rising the tide for tennis fans, our existing distribution partners and the game’s stakeholders everywhere.”

The launch of T2 comes during the important month of March, when the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and the Miami Open in Florida take place.

The week-and-a-half tournaments feature some of the best players in the world competing in high level daily matches. T2 said it will present live coverage throughout the month.
