Samsung officially introduced this week the first two models in its 2019 sound bar lineup — models HW-Q60R and the HW-Q70R.
Both models, which will hit retail shelves in April at suggested retail prices of $499.99 and $799.99, respectively, were developed in collaboration with mid-to-high-end audio equipment maker Harman Kardon, which is now a Samsung-owned company.
The Samsung HW-Q60R was advertised on Amazon at a discounted pre-order price of $393.33, with a March 28, 2019 ship date.
Both new Samsung sound bars were announced by Samsung’s South Korean parent company Tuesday.
This year, Samsung has changed the sound bar model naming configuration to reflect their close connection to its high-end Q60R, Q70R, Q80R and Q90R 4K Ultra HD QLED TV series. This points to the close connection between the sound bar models and similarly named TV sets. Both components will have similar cosmetic styling and interactive operation, including the use of “One Remote.”
Step-up Samsung HW-Q80R and HW-Q90R sound bars are expected to be introduced later in the year.
A key feature found in both new sound bars is called “Adaptive Sound.” Samsung defines this as the ability for the sound bars to automatically switch on this mode when paired with a Samsung 2019 Q series TV. Adaptive Sound then “understands the sound and optimizes it according to the scene, listeners can enjoy even more realistic sound for every genre of content,” Samsung said in a statement announcing the new models.
The HW-Q60R and HW-Q70R are positioned in the upper mid-range of Samsung’s 2019 sound bar lineup. Other models are expected to be announced later.
