Samsung Introduces Galaxy Buds2 Pro Wireless Earphones With 24-Bit Support
Samsung used its August 2022 Galaxy Portables Unpacked live stream event Wednesday to introduce its new Galaxy Buds2 Pro wireless earphones with 24-bit sound, and designed to work with Samsung TVs as well as its Galaxy mobile devices.
The next-generation true wireless earbuds offer active noise cancellation and feature end-to-end 24-bit high-resolution audio support for 24-bit content, enabled through the use of a new Samsung developed Codec.
The Galaxy Buds2 Pro earbuds also have a new sleeker design, 15% smaller than the original Galaxy Buds Pro, and provide a more comfortable fit with improved air flow.
Samsung started taking preorders for the Galaxy Buds2 Pro today, at a $229.99 suggested retail price. They will be available starting August 26th, and will be available in a choice of black, white, or purple.
Samsung said the new earbuds will continue to automatically switch between various Samsung devices, including its TVs, and can quickly change from watching a program and taking an incoming phone call. But to work with full 24-bit output, the connected device will need to feature One UI 4.0 or later.
Tonally speaking, the new earbuds were designed to offer Samsung’s “most immersive wireless audio experience”. Internally, the earbuds are comprised of a new custom coaxial two-way speaker with an improved “richer” sound.
A “Sound by AKG” logo placed inside the charging case reveal Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with the acclaimed headphone acoustics brand went into the Galaxy Buds2 Pro design.
Samsung said the new 24-bit high-res audio technology enables playing in full quality 24-bit song files from supporting streaming services without down sampling, but Samsung indicates that 24-bit support may vary between streaming music service apps.
To work with Bluetooth 5.3 wireless technology, Samsung said it developed its proprietary Samsung Seamless Codec HiFi. The earbuds show support for 360-degree audio enhanced with multichannel capability. The Buds2 Pro specs also show they are Bluetooth LE Audio-ready.
Playback time is rated at up to five hours with active noise cancellation engaged or eight hours with it off. The case provides a total of 20 hours of operating power life with active noise cancellation on or 30 hours with it off.
Showing its environmental awareness, Samsung said the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, are made up to 90% of recycled plastics.
