Samsung announced this week that it is now selling the 2019 version of its “SERIF” design-lifestyle TV, which newly features 4K Ultra HD “QLED” color expanding technology.
The company said the The Serif is available in a 55-inch screen size in white bezel and body color at a $1,599.99 suggested retail price on Samsung.com and through select retailers.
The design-centric 4K full-array LED-LCD television not only offers a unique contemporary look, it packs the latest in 4K Ultra HD picture enhancement technology and features, including quantum dot color enhancement film, which Samsung refers to as QLED. This elevates color brightness and gamut coverage for natural-appearing shades and hues that stand out from other displays for realism and color volume.
Styled with the inspiration of the serif type font, The Serif TV offers a form factor that “blends harmoniously into the home while delivering premium QLED performance and smart TV functionality,” Samsung said.
“We first launched The Serif TV in 2016 to reimagine the TV design experience for consumers into a gateway for personal expression in the home,” stated Andrew Sivori, Vice President, TV Product Marketing, Samsung America. “The latest manifestation of this approach combines exceptional picture quality, innovative design features and smart functionalities to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind TV offering.”
The Serif was designed by Samsung in collaboration with the award-winning design team of Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.
According to Samsung the intent of the project resulted in “blurring the lines between furniture and technology.”
The set appearance leverages a single frame and forms a distinct “l” shape, designed to be appreciated from any angle, Samsung explained.

In addition, the set incorporates Samsung’s popular “Ambient Mode” feature that enables presenting still imagery on screen when the set is not being used to watch live video. The colors and creatives on screen are taken from the room surroundings to help the television blend in with the surroundings. Or, the screen can be used to present useful information like the time, weather, news etc. at a glance.
Importantly, The Serif can also transform into another platform for presenting still-image art from professional photographs, customizable design patterns and family photos. Exclusive to Serif, Ambient Mode also features a Bouroullec Palette, offering users 10 exclusive palettes – two patterns (Fabric & Leaf) in five different colors.
In addition, built-in Bluetooth wireless linking allows users to play music directly from their smartphones to their Serif TV.
