Samsung Electronics America introduced a new massive 85-inch The Terrace Full Sun model to its outdoor Lifestyle TV family.
The Samsung Terrace 85-inch 4K Neo QLED Mini-LED-backlit LCD TV becomes the biggest screen size in Samsung outdoor TV assortment, and will produce pictures optimized for outdoor TV viewing conditions, Samsung said.
The company plans to demonstrate the new high-performance outdoor TV for custom electronics integrators at CEDIA Expo (booth No. 1912) in Denver next month.
Samsung said the set’s Neo QLED 4K screen will “stay bright even on the sunniest days, thanks to Direct-Sun Protection, as well as a new IP56 rating for durability.” The panel is protected up to six hours in sunlight running at 700 watts and 104 degrees Fahrenheit at which point brightness may decrease to protect the panel at other high temperature and sunlight conditions.
“We’re seeing a greater demand for TVs that can be experienced from a variety of non-traditional places, such as while camping, on the ceiling, or even in the great outdoors,” stated James Fishler, Samsung Electronics America Home Entertainment Division senior VP. “The Terrace makes it easy to enjoy your favorite shows, movies, and games – now, on an ultra-large screen – while outside in your backyard.”
Samsung said the 85-inch Terrace is available for pre-order now through September 10, 2023 at $19,999 on Samsung.com.
The new model is said to offer an improved Neo QLED panel supporting 4K UHD resolution clarity, a wide color gamut and 100% Color Volume that won’t wash out in extreme brightness.
Samsung’s “Direct-Sun Protection,” will enable watching images in direct sunlight, Samsung said.

The Terrace TV further includes Samsung’s Wide Viewing Angle and Anti-Glare screen technology to minimize screen reflections and picture degradation when viewing from off center axis to the screen.
Other advanced picture quality features in the 85-inch The Terrace include reduced onscreen motion blur for clearer viewing of both movies and live sports events.
As with all 2023 premium Samsung TV models, the new Terrace TV includes the company’s advanced Quantum Processor 4K to automatically drive upscaling of sub-4K content to fill all of the pixels on screen without introducing distracting artifacts or image noise while restoring lost image details for crisp definition from a wide range of input sources.
The 85-inch The Terrace will also present high dynamic range (HDR) content using the supporting HDR10, HDR10+ (dynamic metadata) and HLG profiles, and will provide support for multiple simultaneous video feeds.
Optimized for permanent outdoor installations, The Terrace products support a package of high-end backyard technology for custom installations, including a built-in HD Base-T receiver for long-ranging HDMI networking flexibility using a single LAN cable to connect multiple source devices.
Other new features in the 85-inch The Terrace model include the company’s Tizen smart TV platform that implements the Samsung Gaming Hub to bring access to a portfolio of over 3,000 games from cloud-gaming partners including: Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, Utomik, Antstream Arcade, and Blacknut.
The included Auto Game Mode will also enable faster on-screen game viewing optimization.
The Terrace also features the Samsung Tizen operating system, so you can access over 600 apps and control nearby smart devices using Smart Things directly from the TV. It also includes Samsung TV Plus – Samsung’s free ad-supported TV (FAST) and video on-demand service (AVOD), which gives access to over 2,000 channels globally and thousands of on-demand shows and movies.
The 85-inch Terrace also includes the Samsung SolarCell Remote, which uses a solar panel for continual battery charging, indoors or outdoors, to save the environment and pocketbooks from the need for battery replacements.
