Roku announced Wednesday that has addressed the exploding popularity of women’s sports by launching from within Roku home screen a new “Women’s Sports Zone,” designed to make women’s sports events more discoverable and accessible to Roku platform. viewers.

Beginning today, the new centralized Women’s Sports Zone will aggregate appearances of women’s sporting events and women’s sports programming available from all services across the Roku platform.

Roku said it felt compelled to develop the zone after seeing the huge uptick in the viewership of women’s sports events, which has elevated ratings and generated more and more broadcast coverage.

“In 2022, 30% of sports fans said they are watching more women’s sports than they used to over the past five years, while 85% of them said that it is important for women’s sports to continue growing in popularity,” the company stated in announcing the addition.

Roku users are now able to find and watch favorite teams and their games from the National Women’s Soccer League, LPGA, US Women’s World Cup, US Women’s Open and more. Roku said the Women’s Sports Zone debut was timed to help fans tune into the WNBA season tipoff that starts Friday (May 19th). Games will be available on Roku TVs and devices for free via ION’s FAST Channel available through The Roku Channel location.

In addition to live and upcoming sporting events, the Women’s Sports Zone will feature free content from The Roku Channel including the recently launched Women’s Sports Network, as well as female-focused sports content such as The Longshots, Prodigy, Bring It! and other related fare.

Roku said the Women’s Sports Zone provides streaming, live broadcast, and educational content options all in one place, for rapid access to popular games and related features. Plus, content within the Zone will be curated based on users’ viewing habits, favorite teams, and more, so you can stream what you love with ease. Roku said its Women’s Sports Zone complements the women’s sports programming already featured within the Roku Home Screen Sports experience.

At launch, sports-related content from soccer, golf, and professional and collegiate basketball will be available from supporting channel partners and will air in the Zone based on seasonality, with an expanded content offering to follow in the coming months, the company said.

To locate the Women’s Sport Zone on the RokuOS platform, users can:
