With the Olympics winding down, and the 2014 models expected to begin shipping next month, the TV makers are doing a final clearance on their respective 2013 models. We got an advanced look at Best Buy’s weekly circular and other ads to find you the best close-out deals.
When the new models appear, they will be priced at their highest levels and far more expensive than the 2013 close-out. While there will be a number of technical advances with 2014 4K models, the lower to mid-end of the major brand TV makers 2014 HDTV models are not much different than last year, so a 2013 close-out should be considered for those not seeking the top end models.

Comparing the sales prices to the MSRP is kind of useless, isn’t it? These TVs are always available at some price significantly less than the MSRP, so it’d be more useful if you compared the sales prices to the actual price the TV set is normally sold for on Amazon. For example, Sony’s KDL-55W900a is not normally $3300 on Amazon, it was somewhere around $2000 I think. So the sale price is really just a 10% drop, not 47%.
One could make an argument either way. However, in the case of the Sony KDL-55W900a UPP (and the selling price on Amazon) was $2800 when it first was offered for sale in early-May 2013, a far cry from the $2000 you suggest. It dropped a couple of weeks later to $2600, then $2300 from June until early Sept. It then dropped to $2000 where it stayed until late January 2014 when it first hit just below $1800 then dropped to where we are now listing it.
MSRP is a reference. We need to use something as a reference point. Our weekly specials show price movement and generally reflect a deal that either meets the lowest price ever offered for the product or is the lowest price of the model year.
