Agree with Mark for Stephen, once you go plasma you’ll never be ssatisfied with any other display technology.
If you can’t afford the Pioneer’s there is nothing wrong with the Panasonic’s. They still test at 880 lines of motion resolution, over 200 more than most LCD’s.
Couldn’t give you a website, but the “burn-in” issue is such a mute point anymore. Yeah, maybe the first 2-3 generations of plasmas had an issue, but I have owned two different plasmas over the last 6 years (one Panasonic which I have since sold) and a Pioneer Elite I bought a couple years ago. Kids play Gamecube, I watch headline news tickers, etc. and has never been a problem. I remember the salesman at a high-end store I bought the Pioneer from told me I virtually had to “try” to burn-in a plasma. I tend to agree. I also bought a 32″ Sharp LCD about a year ago. Guess what the 2nd page of the owners manual says….be careful of burn-in. Just be smart. Don’t pause a DVD player and go to your relatives for Christmas. By the way, I can’t stand watching a movie or sports on my 32″ LCD after being spoiled by the plasma picture….
Been waiting for a kuro but just read up about horrible burn in /retention on older model pioneers (including elite models). Now am wondering if the xbr4 or the samsung 71 is the way to go.
Anyone have links that show there is no burn in on the kuro 52″ 1080p?
Saw Stephen’s comment about holding out on a steal for a Pioneer Plasma. Join the club, but that is like holding out on a steal from Mercedes or Rolex. Ain’t gonna happen, at least until a new model change, which I don’t see happening until next Fall. That seems to be their release times. I’m biting the bullet next month. Why not enjoy the best now. The KURO panels do not have ANY competition. I’ve always wanted a Mercedes, but I’ll settle for the KURO :)
COSTCO HAS THE PANASONIC TH58PE75U 1899 JUST WONDERING IF ITS A GOOD DEAL
are you sure nnnoe? I see the Sony KDL52W3000 Bravia 52-inch High Definition Flat Panel LCD TV
for 2399..not the XBR…show the link?
Dell.com is currently offering the Sony 46XBR4 at $1999 and the 52XBR4 at $2399—free shipping.
right, I’m quoting the Sony KDL 52XBR4
…that’s Sony KDL 46XBR4. :-)
The Sony KDL XBR4 is available for $2277.00 and no tax on line on one of Guru’s lists. The new Samsung 40 inch LCD with LCD backlighting is available for $2007.00 from the same dealer and the latest generation Sharp LCD,42 inch,is available for $1137.00 from this same dealer. Check the link on this page.
Here’s my best deal – SHARP LC-52D82U $2337+freight – Electroniqueplus.com – got an address 5th ave., new york.
sony kdl52xbr4 $2699.99+ freight Tigerdirect.com
Samsung plasma 58″ FPT5884 $2747 + freight Electroniqueplus.com (Hope these folks aren’t fly-by-night)
Can’t speak for reliability, company, products, etc. Just what I’ve found in my hunting.
I have a feeling the prices will drop after the Turkey Day holidays a couple hundred bucks more.
Panasonic plasmas are now at ‘steal em’ prices. Must have a new product launch coming.
Personally, I’m holding out for a steal on either the Pioneer plasmas, the sharp lcd (if this ain’t a steal price, I wonder what will move me), or the sony xbr4. Been waiting years, couple weeks more is easy.
good hunting
Thanks….
please email me, anyone, at kev6873 at comcast dot net if you see a great deal on a 52″…id really appreciate and i will do the same….
No, I went back to buy it and it said $2999 with a red line through it, added to cart, was still $2999. Now I think its even more – keep your eyes open this week.
Still trying to find a “cheap” 52″ Sony LCD. Does Sears still have the 52W3000 for 2449?
I think you’re XBR price may be a mistake?
Sony KDL-46XBR4 was $3299.99 now $2299.99 a $300 drop
Probably should be $2999? Haven’t seen a lower street price at any of this big boxes yet.
None of these deals seem as good as some of the recent prices. Last week the KDL-52W3000 was $2699 @Sears with $250 cash back = $2449. Sears also had the 46XBR for $2799-$150=$2649. I’m still hoping to find a Panasonic TH-50PZ77U for $1800 again, like Circuit City had a few weeks ago.
My bad, a typo. It has been corrected. Thanks for spotting it.
As mentioned in the article, you may find better deals elsewhere such as the HD Guru Pricegrabber website. I limit my bargain hunting to the retailers I have posted.
