Parks: Prime Video Knocks Netflix Out Of 1st Place In Paid OTT Subs For The First Time
Amazon’s Prime Video over-the-top (OTT) subscription streaming service has dethroned long-time subscription video king Netflix in total subscribers for the first time, according to a newly released top 10 U.S. OTT services ranking from researcher Parks Associates.
Parks said the ranking in which Prime Video stepped out front was based on a count of paid U.S. OTT subscribers. It was based on the analyst’s estimated numbers of subscribers through September 2022, and comes at a time when 83% of U.S. broadband households have at least one OTT service, and 23% juggle nine or more OTT subscriptions.
Netflix, which has been the top ranked U.S. OTT subscription video service since the start of Park’s OTT Video Market Tracker service, has faced stiff competition in the last year, with a number of powerhouse competitors entering the race, including Peacock, which rose into the the top 10 list for the first time in 2022 as Showtime dropped off.
Parks Associates will share its recent streaming data at the Future of Video conference December 12-14 at the Marina del Rey Marriott in California.
