Amazon’s Prime Video over-the-top (OTT) subscription streaming service has dethroned long-time subscription video king Netflix in total subscribers for the first time, according to a newly released top 10 U.S. OTT services ranking from researcher Parks Associates.
Parks said the ranking in which Prime Video stepped out front was based on a count of paid U.S. OTT subscribers. It was based on the analyst’s estimated numbers of subscribers through September 2022, and comes at a time when 83% of U.S. broadband households have at least one OTT service, and 23% juggle nine or more OTT subscriptions.
