Custom architectural electronics brand Origin Acoustics announced Monday that it has reached an agreement to become the exclusive U.S. importer of Velodyne Acoustics products.
Origin Acoustics said it reached a strategic partnership with German-based Audio Reference, the new owners of Velodyn Acoustics to exclusively distribute Velodyn brand products in the U.S.
The announcement comes three days prior to the start of CEDIA Expo 2022 in Dallas, Texas, Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Origin Acoustics plans to demo the products at CEDIA Booth #16069 and will have inventory in stock and shipping around early November.
Velodyne Acoustics, which was established as a home theater audio equipment company in 1983, with more than 200 patents, and is best known for its wide range of high-performing subwoofers. The company was dormant for several years prior to being acquired in 2019.
In announcing the partnership, Thomas Wolff, Velodyne’s export sales manager, stated: “We are excited to bring Velodyne Acoustics back to the US where the brand started. The brand was iconic in the states and adored by the Custom Channel and 2-channel resellers alike. We have been looking for the right partner that could bring Velodyne Acoustics back, and there is no doubt Origin Acoustics will do a great job. This is incredible for both companies, and most importantly, for the dealers who have enjoyed the brand for many years.”
Origin Acoustics said it will offer the brand’s entire line in the U.S. using a national sales team and rep partners.
The product line consists of over 30 subwoofer models, along with several amplifiers, most of which are newly designed, according to Velodyne.
The product range covers most price points for both music and movie applications.
Among the highlights are the MicroVee X series, an updated version of the popular MicroVee compact subwoofer. The unit is roughly the size of a 9-inch cube, has 800 watts of dynamic power and will play down to 18Hz through a 6.5-inch high excursion carbon fiber driver and two side-mounted passive radiators.

Gordon Isaac, chief marketing and strategy officer, said the companies will be collaborating on additional Design Centric Technology solutions for designers.
“Velodyne Acoustics has always created amazing subwoofers, but what is impressive is how they have been able to continue to elevate the performance of their products and bring out new models that are even better than the originals,” Issacs added.
Mansour Mamaghani, CEO of Hamburg based Velodyne Acoustics, said, “I feel strongly that we share a commitment with Origin Acoustics to create reference-level sound quality and provide strong customer support throughout a positive and long-term approach to business. This will be a great opportunity for US dealers to offer a brand they know well. We look forward to working with the team at Origin Acoustics and continuing to create the high-performance products their dealers require.”
