Optoma introduced Monday its UHZ35ST, short throw, DLP 4K UHD laser projector designed to elevate home entertainment and gaming experiences.

The projector, which is billed as a laser-based-alternative to the company’s UHD35STx, brings a more compact design, greater reliability and even more energy efficient operation than its predecessor.

For competitive big-screen gaming, the Optoma UHZ35ST features an Enhanced Gaming mode that reduces lag times down to 16.9ms in 4K at 60Hz and 4ms in 1080P at 240Hz, the company said.

The Optoma UHZ35ST is available now at a $3,238.91 estimated street retail in the United States.

The projector features an external power supply and generates up to 3,500 lumens of peak brightness with a 500,000:1 contrast ratio from the DuraCore laser light source.

The Optoma UHZ35ST’s laser light engine lists an average life expectancy of up to 30,000 hours in Eco Mode without maintenance. The unit’s short throw lens will display up to a 100-inch screen size from a few feet away from the screen.

Set-up is said to be simplified for a variety of settings, while the unit design is 34% smaller than previous models.

In addition to the low lag time, the UHZ35ST also delivers up to a 240Hz refresh rate with Full HD 1080p sources and an ultra low-input lag of 4ms for PC gaming.

“The new UHZ35ST offers all the top features that have made our popular UHD35STx a favorite, boasting an industry-leading low latency and flexible short throw performance,” stated Oliver Blundell, Optoma product manager. “Paired with a new laser light source and more sustainable chassis, the UHZ35ST guarantees greater energy efficiency for elevated home entertainment and gaming experiences.”
