Omdia: Samsung, LG Topped Global TV Market Share Rankings In 2021
Samsung finished 2021 the top TV market share leader in world for revenue and unit share for the 16th consecutive year, according to Omdia data released Sunday.
The market research firm’s data, which was reported Pulse Korea and others, showed Samsung with 29.5% share of global TV revenue and 19.8% share of unit volume (approximately 42 million TVs) for the full year 2021.
The achievement came in a down global TV market, that registered total unit volume of 213.54 million, down by 1,932,000 units. It was the lowest industry unit shipment figure since 2010, Omdia said.
The company’s South Korean rival LG Electronics, finished the year with the second-ranked TV position for revenue and unit share at 18.5% for revenue and 12.8% in unit volume (27.332 million sets).
Combined the two Korean companies accounted for 48% of the global TV market, by revenue, due to strong premium TV sales for both companies.
According to Omdia’s shared data, Samsung sold 9.43 million QLED (quantum dot) TVs in 2021, which totaled 26 million QLED-based units cumulatively over the past five years. Omdia said Samsung QLED TVs accounted for 44.5% of the total revenue in the premium TV segment.
LG Electronics’ premium OLED TV sales totaled 4,048,000 units shipped in 2021 and the industry sold 6,525,000 units in the year, giving LG 62% share of the world’s OLED TV volume in 2021.
