LG Electronics announced Thursday that this week its B9, C9 and E9 2019 4K OLED TV models will begin to receive the previously announced firmware update bringing enhanced G-Sync video gameplay capabilities.
The capability and update delivery were first announced back in September for C9 and E9 OLED models, but LG’s latest announcement adds 55- and 65-inch models from the popular entry LG B9 OLED TV line to the list.
NVIDIA G-Sync will provide gaming enthusiasts with this year’s LG OLED TVs easy connectivity and setup when hooking up PCs equipped with NVIDIA G-Sync GeForce RTX 20-Series or GTX 16-Series GPUs. The technology will improve lag time and responsiveness while ensuring games run smoothly.
When the firmware update was originally announced back in September, LG said G-Sync compatibility had been verified through NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility testing.
LG says the feature will be downloaded and installed in the aforementioned OLED models starting this week in North America and will continue to markets in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, through the balance of the year.
Among the benefits of G-Sync is the elimination of frame tearing and stuttering artifacts that are associated with frame rate misalignment between the gaming device and the display commonly experienced with lesser-equipped displays.

The technology is similar to AMD’s competitive FreeSync system used in Microsoft Xbox One S and X consoles and supported in certain Samsung TVs. LG told us that system is not supported by the 2019 LG OLED models. Instead, LG provides similar benefits to gamers with those systems through the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) HDMI 2.1 feature and other techniques.
In a statement, Sam Kim, LG Home Entertainment TV product planning senior VP said: “As the first TVs to offer NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible support in the industry, LG is once again demonstrating its commitment to delivering the most advanced gaming experience. “Our partnership with NVIDIA, the world’s premiere gaming hardware brand, are [sic] helping our 2019 OLED TVs set a new standard in gaming performance.”
