Nuvyyo, the manufacturer of the Tablo family of set-top TV media adapters, used CES week to announce its Tablo ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV Quad HDMI Tuner for new over-the-air (OTA) broadcast TV station reception and ATSC 1.0 reception and DVR recording.

The Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI DVR includes four hybrid ATSC 1.0/3.0 tuners capable of receiving both new ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV signals as well as legacy ATSC 1.0 stations available in the same market.

All four of the Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI’s tuners will receive and decode audio and video from both 1.0 and 3.0 OTA broadcast standards, the company said. The device also supports ATSC 3.0’s internet-enabled advanced interactive features including emergency alerting, where available.

However, the unit will not support streaming live or recorded OTA TV to other devices inside or outside the home.

All generations of Tablo OTA DVRs receive free regular firmware updates, as well as basic (ATSC 1.0) DVR functionality, including:

The company said the new Tablo version will support 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, and Dolby AC-4 Surround Sound audio, where available in the broadcast signals.

Nuvyyo said the device was designed for early-adopter cord cutters in areas where ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV signals are now available.

The Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI continues to combine the conveniences of OTA broadcast TV tuning with DVR time-shift recording.

Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI is available for pre-order now priced at a $299.99 retail price exclusively at TabloTV.com. It is expected to be ready to ship to early purchasers starting in the spring 2022.

Other features include 24 hours of TV Guide Data (traditional grid guide); manual recording (one-time or recurring); playback controls including pause, rewind, and fast-forward and support for 5.1/Dolby AC-4 Surround Sound passthrough.

For greater convenience, users can also subscribe to optional Tablo TV Guide Data Service (included as a 30-day free trial) to receive total control over DVR scheduling and viewing. This provides episode and series synopses, cover art, and metadata for programs airing over the upcoming two weeks. It enables such DVR features as one-touch series recording, advanced recording options (adjustable start/stop times, keep X recordings, record by channel), automatic extended time on live TV show recordings, automatic avoidance of duplicate recordings and others.

An optional Tablo Automatic Commercial Skip Service available for all Tablo OTA DVRs is avaiable through a Tablo Premium Service subscription that enables ATSC 1.0 recordings from the Tablo ATSC 3.0 QUAD HDMI OTA DVR without commercial interruptions or the need to manually fast forward over interruptions.
