Roku this week had good news for U.S. fans of Nordic-originated television content through a deal to bring more than 1,500 hours of premium movies and programs from the region’s streaming content distributor Viaplay as a premium channel service partner available in the U.S. through The Roku Channel.
The multi-year partnership between Viaplay Group and Roku includes many of Viaplay’s most acclaimed series and films as well as curated third-party content.
The content will be added to The Roku Channel’s growing stable of 50 subscription offerings. These are available for paid premium subscription alongside the more than 350 free live linear TV channels and 80,000 free AVOD fils and TV programs in the The Roku Channel available on Roku TVs and streaming devices as well some third-party smart TV products.

Among the individual Viaplay shows that will be available to U.S. subscribers through The Roku Channel are the Danish thriller “Trom” starring Ulrich Thomsen (“The New Pope”); the hit Swedish crime series “No Time to Mourn”; and Norway’s acclaimed drama “Exit” with Tobias Santelmann (“Point Break”).
“Launching on The Roku Channel offers Viaplay outstanding reach in the world’s largest streaming market,” stated Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group chief commercial officer, North America and Viaplay Select. “Our award-winning series and films, many with internationally recognised stars, are an ideal fit for The Roku Channel’s diverse line-up of Premium Subscriptions. Premium Nordic content has a dedicated audience in the US, and fans can now experience the most stylish and thrilling stories that the region has to offer.”
In addition to The Roku Channel, Viaplay is available in the United States from Comcast’s Xfinity cable and streaming platforms. Separately, Viaplay also plans to make its own direct-to-consumer Viaplay app available in the United Stated for other platforms in early 2023.
