Panasonic introduced Wednesday its Lumix G100 ultra-compact digital mirrorless camera with 4K video capture, an improved Auto Focus system optimized for selfie videos and stills, OZO auto-tracking surround sound recording and other vlogger-friendly features.
The new Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) camera was designed to make it quick and easy for selfie video and still photo taking, alike. It is positioned as a handy tool for the pro-level vlogging community. The compact body weighs only 14.5 ounces for low effort selfie shooting on the go.
The Lumix G100 integrates a 20.3-megapixel MOS sensor without low pass filter, which features higher resolution and a larger size than found in smartphones. Further, the camera offers an advanced AF system with fast low-light focus ability, and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 25600 that is said to produce clear images under difficult shooting conditions. The large sensor enables artful background defocusing, with Panasonic’s Venus Engine video processing keeps high-speed images sharp.
Panasonic is making the G100 available in a KK (camera/lens) kit with a lens (Lumix G Vario 12-32mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S.) for a $749.99 suggested retail, or with the camera, lens and a tripod grip (DMW-SHGR1) for $799.99. As a special pre-order special, Panasonic is offering an extra battery and a $50 discount on either option through Aug. 1, 2020. The G100 will be available starting at the end of July.
Among the camera’s more out-standing features is a significantly faster facial tracking AF system and high-quality built-in mic with tracking surround sound capability. The built-in mic is said to act as a shot-gun mic, while the OZO-developed surround tracking system isolates clear voices while keeping background sounds in perspective, even as the on-camera subject walks and moves along in a scene. Narration is kept clear and clean in the background of the shot.
Panasonic said the camera is both compact and substantial enough to serve as a significant step-up in use and performance from a smartphone. The Lumix G100 is equipped with a 4/3rds sensor that captures smooth, high-resolution QFHD 4K videos in 3840×2160 resolution at 30p or 24p in MP4 and Full-HD at 60p.

The camer is equipped with shooting assist functions that allow the Frame Maker to check the composition during recording in various aspect ratios including: 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4 and 9:16.
The REC Frame Indicator displays an red frame around the field of view so that videographers can recognize whether the camera is recording or not at a glance.

The Lumix G100 integrates OZO Audio by Nokia for high-quality spatial audio recording, a first for a mirrorless camera.
