LG said Friday it will bring to CES 2019 the latest in its line of DLP-based CineBeam ultra-short throw (UST) 4K laser projectors, offering a compact form factor and bright 4K images.
The LG CineBeam HU85L uses UST technology allowing it to be placed a little more than 2 inches from the wall to project up to a 90-inch diagonal image, or up to a 120-inch screeen size from 7 inches away.
The long-life laser light engine is said to help the unit achieve a peak brightness level of up to 2,500 ANSI lumens and an accurate wide color gamut. The 4K Ultra HD resolution produces sharp, clear pictures and strong black levels in controlled room-light situations, LG said.
LG model HU85L is equipped to let viewers watch streaming movies and TV shows from over-the-top online services. The projector will also accept external signal sources via USB, Ethernet and HDMI inputs, the company said.
Furthermore, the LG CineBeam Laser 4K HU85L is equipped with LG’s ThinQ Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology allowing the use of voice-control commands to access key functions using natural speaking language. The system will execute spoken commands like “turn off projector after the movie has finished” or narrow the content to view by telling the projector to “play yoga videos on YouTube”, LG said.

In addition, the system will perform program and title searhes as well as seach for program featuring favorite actors and then select the content by speaking into the included Magic Remote.
LG said the supplied Magic Remote also recognizes gestures and features backlit buttons for easy navigation which turn on automatically when motion is detected.
The projector has a compact horizontal design — unlike last-year’s CineBeam that could be placed vertically–for convenient placement on a tabletop or credenza positioned a few inches from the wall. It can be easily moved and adjusted with quick and smooth setup. LG said to assist in setup and placement, the HU85L offers 12-point keystone adjustment to eliminate image distortion common to other UST projectors.
“The new CineBeam Laser projector marries spectacular 4K viewing experience with the convenience of AI technology,” stated Jang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT business division. “There is no other product like this on the market.”
Pricing and availability will be announced at the show.
