LG Electronics this week launched the addition of on-demand streaming apps for both the Showtime and Starz! cable networks on the TV maker’s webOS smart TVs, including the 2018 versions with ThinQ AI built-in that will be coming to market shortly.

Showtime Networks said its app was the first cable service to offer a stand-alone streaming service and Showtime Anytime authentication service on the LG platform.

LG Smart TV users can now download the Showtime streaming app by visiting the LG Content Store on their television. After signing up for a seven-day free-trial, new subscribers will receive access to the Showtime service for $10.99 per month.

The network also launched its authentication service app Showtime Anytime on LG Smart TVs to enable those who already subscribe to Showtime on a cable or satellite pay-TV platform to use the Showtime on-demand streaming app anytime at no additional cost, through participating providers.

Showtime subscribers on LG Smart TVs and Showtime Anytime users will have unlimited on-demand access to thousands of hours of programming, including entire seasons of acclaimed original series including Homeland, The Chi, Ray Donovan, SMILF, The Affair, Shameless, Twin Peaks and I’m Dying Up Here.

Subscribers will also have access to the live broadcast of the network’s East and West Coast feeds, as well as box-office hits, comedy specials, documentaries and sports programming.

Consumers who sign up for the Showtime stand-alone streaming service or authenticate through the Showtime Anytime version, will be able to watch the services across all supported devices no matter how they subscribe, including on phones, tablets and computers. The stand-alone streaming service app is available through Apple, Roku, Amazon, Google, Xbox One and Samsung devices. Consumers can also subscribe to Showtime via Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling TV, DirecTV Now, Sony PlayStation Vue and Amazon Channels.

Shortly thereafter, Starz! announced the launch of its app on select LG Smart TVs, including the recently debuted 2018 LG OLED TVs with AI ThinQ and LG Super UHD TVs with AI ThinQ.

Starz! pay-TV subscribers may now watch exclusive original series including Counterpart, Power, Outlander, American Gods, as well as hundreds of movies and first-run films on LG Smart TVs running the webOS Smart TV platform.

The Starz! app on LG Smart TVs is a single destination for all subscribers who want to stream Starz! premium content. Its intuitive content discovery design and navigation offers ease of use and a compelling user experience, regardless of how the consumer purchased a subscription to STARZ.

Starz! subscriptions can be purchased directly on Starz.com, the Starz! app or through Amazon Appstore, App Store, Google Play or Roku for $8.99 per month with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.

Starz! subscribers from participating cable, satellite and telco partners can also authenticate and view Starz! content in the app including every episode of every season of the network’s original programming, and major movies.
