LG announced today it will introduce next month at the 2012 CES in Las Vegas the world’s largest and first 3D flat panel using LG film pattern technology (FPR) to produce images with all the vertical resolution of active 3D displays but using the cheap lightweight, batteryless 3D glasses found in movie theaters.
LG calls the set an 3D Ultra Definition TV for use of its 84-Inch panel (84.04″ diagonal) that has a 4K resolution in 2D of 3840 x 2160, exactly four times the pixels found in Full HD TVs. The FPR system (TV + 3D glasses) cuts the vertical resolution in half making the 3D resolution 3840 x 1080, which will provide the same vertical resolution as found in all Full HD TVs using active 3D glasses. All current LG FPR TVs provide 540 lines of vertical resolution when viewing 3D content.

As pictured above the panel boasts slim bezels, thin form factor and incorporates LGs latest Magic Remote that uses hand motion, pointing, voice and a wheel to instead of conventional buttons to control the TV. This 84-Incher is a Smart TV allowing access to thousands of movies and over 1200 apps and “gives users access to a growing range of premium content services, including the 3D Zone, where users can select an increasing wealth of 3D movies via the Internet” according to the latest press release.
LG also includes its upcoming 3D Sound Zooming technology that it claims competes favorably to the sound you get from a complete home theater system. You can see the entire press release with more information at our sister website HD Guru3D .
