LG introduced Tuesday a new “GX” soundbar featuring enhanced spatial and cosmetic stylistic integration with LG’s premium TVs, especially its ultra-thin GX Gallery series OLED TVs.

Available in stores the week of July 20th, the LG GX soundbar ($999 suggested retail) produces a 3.1-channel presentation enhanced with new advanced features and aesthetics, the company said. Among them is the new enhanced audio return channel (eARC) feature from the HDMI 2.1 spec, enabling greater bandwidth to pass-through advanced surround formats while ensuring more effective device interactivity and greater lip-sync precision.

LG describers the unit as “the perfect companion to LG’s artistically-inspired Gallery OLED TVs,” offering greater on-wall placement flexibility, by enabling the unit to be mounted flush on the wall directly under the TV or supported using the included sturdy steel stand.

The GX soundbar measures 6 inches high by 57 inches wide by 1-1/4 inches deep, and is said to be “identical in width and finish to the 65-inch LG GX Gallery series OLED TV.”

“At the core of LG’s gallery design is the philosophy of a complete TV system that can fit harmoniously within a given space – a concept that LG’s designers refer to as adding spatial value,” the company’s announcement of the product stated.

The LG GX is said to produce an immersive sonic theater experience with the inclusion of Dolby Atmos and DTX:S support designed to deliver a 3D audio effect. In addition, the unit supports pass-through of advanced video formats including 4K resolution and Dolby Vision dynamic HDR.

The included wireless subwoofer delivers low-frequency bass tones from anywhere in the room, LG said. The company also makes available for use with the GX Soundbar a wireless rear speaker kit (model SPK8, sold separately) to further enhance the 360-degree surround sound experience that LG said produces a more immersive sight and sound viewing experience.

In addition to eARC, the soundbar also offers upgraded user convenience and easy connectivity options including Bluetooth. With its higher bandwidth, eARC provides the full richness of high-resolution audio formats such as Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio, while Bluetooth facilitates effortless streaming from a smartphone or tablet, LG said.

The LG GX soundbar is Hi-Res Audio certified, offering lossless playback at 24bit/96kHz with greater vibrancy and nuance. LG said the speaker produces detailed, natural sound when playing high-resolution audio files or when up-converting conventional audio formats.

Also included is a built-in LG AI Sound Pro feature that analyzes and automatically applies the best sound settings regardless of the content, ensuring maximum listening enjoyment every time.
