LG Electronics launched its first ultra-short throw 4K Ultra HD video projector Wednesday, offering 2,700 ANSI lumens of peak brightness sufficient for viewing high quality images even in moderate ambient room light.

The LG CineBeam AI ThinQ 4K dual-laser projector (model HU85LA) was an Innovation Award winner at January’s 2019 CES and is available now at LG-authorized dealers at a suggested retail price of $5,999, the company said.

The compact “4K projector” is based on Texas Instruments’ Digital Light Processing (DLP) digital micromirror chip with native 1080 pixel resolution, but uses TI’s proprietary form of pixel-shifting technology, called
XPR (Expanded Pixel Resolution) video processing, to present what appears to the eye as 3840×2160 pixels on the screen at one time. LG said the unit will also reproduce high dynamic range (HDR10 profile) with deep black levels and bright highlights.

This is combined with a new optical system that uses a dual R/B laser system to produce three-channels for each red, green and blue primary color, for optimal color reproduction and no “rainbow effect” that is sometimes associated with the use of color wheels.
