LG Electronics (LG) is now rolling out its compact soundbar the Eclair (model QP5), which is billed as offering a sleek, small footprint design to easily fit into tight TV placement locations while maintaining a full, large immersive surround sound experience.

LG said the Eclair QP5 ($567 unilateral pricing policy) is a 3.1.2-channel soundbar offering 320 Watts of total system power and “powerful Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support.” Sound output has been optimized to maintain satisfying listening volumes even at levels that won’t disturb neighbors.

The audio design maintains low vibration with powerful (220W) vibration-damping bass from an included wireless (Bluetooth) bass subwoofer.

The LG Eclair QP5 measures 11.6 x 2.35 x 5 inches, which LG said the new model is one-third the width of LG’s previously smallest 3.1.2 channel Atmos soundbar, model SP8YA.

The LG Eclair design is an oval shape featuring a jersey fabric in a choice of classic black or white, intended to blend with any modern décor.

The 3.1.2-channel surround system employs Meridian Audio’s Horizon tuning and technological expertise to provide what LG said is “exceptional detail and spatiality.”

This Meridian technology up-mixes two channel stereo content into “immersive, multichannel audio to deliver a wider soundstage for a truly immersive listening experience with tonal balance that remains authentic to the original recording,” LG’s launch announcement stated.

Built-in Bluetooth support allows the soundbar to pair with other Bluetooth-enabled devices, including most smartphones and tablets.

For video, the LG Eclair supports 4K pass-through with HDR metadata, including Dolby Vision, from popular streaming services, and features adaptive LG AI Sound Pro that analyzes the content being played to automatically adjust sound output settings for the best listening experience from the content, with respect to genre type including news, music and cinema.

Regarding connectivity, the LG Eclair requires fewer cables through the use of enhanced audio return channel (eARC) support over HDMI, allowing for the lossless transmission of 5.1-channel, 7.1-channel and immersive audio content delivered using the latest immersive audio technologies including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X when used in conjunction with eARC-supporting television sets. In addition to wireless Bluetooth, and eARC, and separate HDMI 2.0 input in provided for direct input from source devices, and legacy HDMI ARC and digital optical audio input is maintained for additional connection flexibility with a wider variety of television brands and models.

For enhanced music listening the LG Eclair QP5 supports Hi-Res Audio file formats including FLAC up to 192 kHz via USB, OGG up to 48 kHz via USB and AAC+ support.

LG’s 2021 TV models also benefit from the use of TV Sound Mode Share to produce what LG called “authentic and clear sound, which combines the processing power of LG’s latest Alpha AI processors and AI Sound Pro for richer sound from content sources over the soundbar.

LG said the Eclair QP5 received an Eco-Product by SGS Société Générale de Surveillance SA of Switzerland to elevate the home viewing experience with reduced impact on the environment.
