UPDATE! LG released the latest available pricing this week this week for its recently announced 2021 Tone Free FP5, FP8 and FP9 earbuds optimized people with high-energy active lifestyles.

The LG Tone Free FP8, is part of LG’s updated TONE Free FP series consisting of two additional models (FP9 and FP5), both of which will be available in the U.S. later this month. The FP8 is available now at LG.com and LG-authorized retailers at a suggested price of $179.99.

Compatible with both Android and iOS mobile devices , these new models feature several enhancements to the comfortable the line’s previously popular in-ear fit, including advanced Meridian-tuned sound tuning, active noise cancellation and a hygiene-boosting UVnano charging case.

In developing the FP8 and FP9 LG said it collaborated with an ergonomic design technology lab to analyze “hundreds of subjects’ ears, resulting in Arc Design with an earbud stem 4.4 millimeters shorter than on previous models to create the perfect balance and fit for an active lifestyle.”

All three models are coming to select retailers starting later this month at prices to be announced, and will be IPX4 rated, for worry-free use in the rain.

The LG Tone Free lineup uses Headphone Spatial Processing from Meridian Audio to envelop the listener with omni-directional sound. In addition, a 3D Sound Stage, which expands the sound stage via spatial up-mixing for more life-like audio experiences. Larger upgraded drivers and diaphragms with silicone edging allow for more flexibility and movement, while presenting more powerful bass that doesn’t compromise on clarity, LG said.

To more accurately pick-up voices in settings with high ambient sound, the earbuds employ three microphones in each bud, while a new Whispering Mode allows for greater call privacy and clarity in quiet environments while holding the right earbud close to the mouth.

The active noise cancelling system on both new models is said to eliminate low-frequency sounds that can’t be completely blocked by the passive noise cancellation eartips.

The microphones on the earbuds listen for ambient noises and neutralize them by producing identical sound waves that are inaudible to the listener, leaving just soundwaves from the music or podcast to enjoy.

The LG FP8 and FP9 come with an auto-cleaning UVnano charging case to keep the eartips clean to reduce the chance of inner ear infections. LG said the UV-C LED built into the Tone Free cases is tested to reduce bacteria on the earbuds’ speaker mesh by 99.9% in just five minutes when charging wired or wirelessly.

For additional hygiene, both new models also feature medical-grade, hypoallergenic ear gels to reduce the risk of skin irritations in the ear canal.

For greater user convenience with wider compatibility, LG said it developed the earbuds to have simpler connectivity and maximum durability. LG FP9 and FP8 can quickly and easily pair with a wide range of devices including Windows PCs and laptops while the FP9 with “Plug & Wireless” enables the charging case to double as a wireless dongle. The FP8 offers wireless charging.

This is especially useful on airplanes, LG said, adding: “By plugging the case into a smartphone, gaming console, or other compatible device via USB-C to AUX cable, users can experience both complete freedom and low-latency sound.”

Both models offer longer battery life, “with up to 10 hours of playback time between charges for a total of 24 hours of usage (22 hours for FP5) when used with the charging case,” LG said.

The system’s quick-charge capability will produce up to a one hour charge after just five minutes in the case, LG said.

Paired with the Tone Free app, are access to an equalizer, Ambient Sound mode, touch control customization and Find My Earbuds to help locate either earbud when lost or misplaced. The app also features LAB, where users can access special settings such as Whispering Mode and Game Mode, LG said.

The new LG Tone Free FP series will be available starting this month in key markets in a range of sophisticated colors such as Charcoal Black, Pearl White and Haze Gold.
