LG Hints At New Soundbar Updates Before CES 2020
LG Electronics’ (LG) corporate office in South Korea revealed Thursday that the company will use CES 2020 (starting Jan. 6th) to launch its new soundbar lineup, which has been designed to integrate easily and visually with the company’s televisions while delivering premium quality audio, easy connectivity, smart functionality and sleek designs.
The 2020 soundbar range continues to benefit from an on-going relationship with advanced acoustic systems designer Meridian Audio to produce finely-tuned sound-shaping technologies including “Bass and Space,” which boosts low-frequency reproduction and widens the soundstage, and “Image Elevation,” which produces lifelike sound by elevating the perceived height of lead instruments and vocals, the company said.
The majority of models in the 2020 lineup will also benefit by supporting advanced audio codecs and profiles including object-based audio systems Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, each producing immersive audio that encompasses the listener from all directions.
In addition, LG’s premium soundbar models in 2020 will offer AI Room Calibration that optimizes sound by automatically adjusting settings to fit the specific characteristics of the listening environment. The soundbars will take room readings and inorder to determine the precise volume, bass and donal adjustments for accurate results.
The technology is said to be particularly impactful with content mastered for Dolby Atmos or DTS:X that produce sound effects that appear to follow on-screen objects around the listeners in the room. For music lovers, LG’s new premium soundbars will also employ what the company calls “an advanced processing algorithm that can upscale conventional file formats to near-studio quality.”
Optimized setups can leverage the 4K Pass-Through capabilities of the soundbars to produce even more cinema-like audio by linking in the optional SPK8 Wireless Rear Speaker Kit. This will produce true rear-channel sound from the back of the listening space and is compatible with most new LG soundbar models.
In many models, LG builds in Google Assistant AI voice control support to easily control compatible smart home devices hands free using basic voice commands taken directly in the LG soundbar. In addition, connectivity has been made easier with support of the new enhanced audio return channel (eARC) technology (one of the new advanced features of the HDMI 2.1 specification) so owners can plug external devices directly into their eARC compatible TVs and enjoy three-dimensional sound of larger bit rate high-resolution audio formats including Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio, where available in content. This is only one of the benefits of the robust new technology.
For 2020, LG’s premium models include the SN9YG, SN11RG and new flagship model SN11RG. The latter is a 7.1.4-channel system with two wireless rear speakers equipped to deliver forward- and up-firing sound designed to produce 360 degrees of auditory immersion. These models all have new sleek, designs that match “the minimalist aesthetics” of many LG 2020 55- and 65-inch TVs, the company said.
“Our goal has always been to bring better sound to more people and by offering more great products that leverage our successful partnership with Meridian, our latest soundbars help achieve this,” stated Park Hyung-woo, head of LG Home Entertainment Company’s audio and video business. “High-performance, convenient and very versatile, LG’s newest models will make the premium audio experience accessible to more customers worldwide.”
