LG Tuesday formally announced pricing and availability in the U.S. of its 2016 4K Ultra HD OLED TV lineup.

Eight 2016 models will be available at leading retailers across the country, with 4K Ultra HD resolution and high dynamic range (both HDR-10 and Dolby Vision formats) support. The TVs conform to the Ultra HD Alliance’s new Ultra HD Premium certification criteria for HDR luminance, color gamut and other criteria.

Movies and television shows created with HDR-10 format are ramping up availability through streaming and download services as well as via Ultra HD Blu-ray players. Meanwhile, all seven major movie studios are now supporting the creation and release of Dolby Vision HDR movies and many streaming content providers, such as Netflix and Amazon, are starting to also offer titles with Dolby Vision HDR format support.

The 2016 LG OLED line comprises four series (B6, C6, E6 and LG Signature G6) with eight models in screen sizes of 55-, 65- and 77-inches. Series options include curved or flat-screen configurations.

LG’s 2016 OLED models have been enhanced to support the deep blacks and bright peak luminance required for spectral highlights in HDR content.

Unlike LCD-based displays, OLED technology has the ability to turn each pixel on or completely off to produce nearly perfect black levels, which helps to produce vibrant colors and rich shadow details, even when bright objects are directly next to deep, dark areas in the picture.

LG 4K OLED TVs all have 10-bit panels and 10-bit processing for clearer, cleaner colors with minimal color banding. The technology also provides the widest off-axis viewing angles of any display technology currently on the market.

The LG’s Signature Series OLED TV’s were developed to create a “Picture on Glass” appearance. The TVs offer a very thin depth (measuring about one-tenth of an inch), a translucent glass back and a forward-facing sound bar that doubles as a stand.

The E6 series also offers an ultra-slim profile with a similar “Picture-on-Glass” aesthetic and traditional yet elegant stand.
