Upscale movie server specialist Kaleidescape introduced Wednesday a new Mobile App offering Kaleidescape equipment and account holders an intuitive user interface designed to make selecting and purchasing movies engaging.
The company said the initial version of the app is available now to iPhone and iPad users through the Apple Store, and eventual will be coming to Android-based phones and tablets as well.
It is designed for remote content selection with simplified control of the onscreen display from a ubiquitous mobile device, without taking the user’s attention from the big screen.
Importantly, the app was also created to make “timely” and appropriate content recommendations to help users find interesting movies, concerts and events to watch from service’s expanding library of available titles, the company said.

Unlike traditional movie streaming services, Kaleidescape is designed to let users download movies, concerts and special events to an expandable local storage server. This enables playing back movies in Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray-like image and sound quality, without the down-rezing and delays often caused by Internet bandwidth constraints.
The company’s server and control system hardware models enable whole-home distribution of movies, and includes robust content information tools to help users quickly find and playback movies of interest from extensive personal content libraries.

However, to use it, many of our customers interact with third party control tablets that make it impossible to use some of the best features of our onscreen user interface,” stated Cheena Srinivasan, Kaleidescape founder and CEO. “Kaleidescape designed our new mobile app to solve this problem by providing a control interface that is as elegant as our onscreen interface. The mobile app’s design was also influenced by the lack of a practical way to visit our movie store and buy movies with a smartphone. The Kaleidescape Mobile App is available for download from the Apple Store. It is offered at no cost to Kaleidescape owners and users worldwide. Kaleidescape plans to release the Mobile App for Android phones in the future.
