With the news Thursday that Disney’s premium streaming services have passed long-time leader Netflix in total subscriber count, JustWatch, the online video content recommendations and information service, has issued its analysis of the achievement.
JustWatch said that by the end of July, Disney+ along with hulu and ESPN+ passed the former global subscriber market leader to earn the mantle as No. 1 premium streaming company in the first half of this year.
Disney said it has a combined 221 million total streaming subscribers worldwide, topping Netflix’s 220.7 million. Netflix remains the largest individual streaming service, however.
Disney confirmed this week that its Disney+ premium streaming service added 14.4 million additional subscribers in the second quarter of 2022 to reach 152.1 million worldwide.

Disney said it had an explosive quarter both from streaming, live sports viewership and its domestic theme park performance, according to Bob Chapek, CEO, The Walt Disney Company.
The program reference service confirmed that Disney now officially has 221.1 million streaming members.
“We looked at our over 25 million monthly users to see how the Disney movie & TV show universe outperformed Netflix,” JustWatch announced. “For the last six months the proportions have been changing dramatically, with Disney gaining 3% of the market share. At the same time, Netflix reached 27% in March, only to fall 3% by the end June.
