GoPro introduced this week the Hero 11 Black, Hero 11 Black Creator Edition and Hero 11 Black Mini as the next generation of its action camera lineup.
At the heart of all three Hero 11 Black camera versions is a new higher-resolution sensor (up to 5.3K) that is larger than in previous Hero camera iterations.
Other upgrades include 10-bit color depth, improved video stabilization and the widest field of view in a Hero camera. The cameras also feature an Enduro Battery that lengthens camera performance in cold and moderate temperatures — by up to 38% in the Hero 11 Black. The Enduro battery is supplied in box for the Hero 11 Black and Hero 11 Black Creator Edition, and built in to the Hero 11 Black Mini.
All three cameras are supported by GoPro’s subscription service ($49.99 per year) that delivers automatic highlights of recorded footage through the GoPro Quik app, as well as a plug-and-play feature that simultaneously charges the Hero 11 camera while offloading and uploading footage to a GoPro cloud account.
The GoPro Hero 11 Black and Hero 11 Black Creator Edition are available now for street prices of $499.99 and $699.99, respectively. The price for GoPro subscribers is $400 and $580, respectively. The specs for the Hero Black Creator Edition, which comes bundled with additional accessories, are effectively the same as the Hero 11 Black standard model.
The Hero 11 Black Mini, also with similar recording specs but a scaled down, less-featured housing, will retail for $400 when it starts shipping October 25th. The price to GoPro subscribers will be $300.
The new sensor in the Hero 11 Black and other 2022 Hero Black iterations features a larger 1/1.9 (6.40 x 5.60mm) size with 10-bit video capture and up to 5.3K resolution at up to 60 frames per second (fps). An 8:7 aspect ratio sensor enables recording more vertical field of view providing more room for horizontal crops for videos and vertical crops for posting on social media platforms. A new HyperView mode enables the widest field of view ever for a Hero camera at a 16:9.

Other features all three Hero 11 cameras offer include HyperSmooth 5.0 technology with in-camera 360-degree Horizon Lock that is said to keep images smooth and steady, three new Night Effect Time Lapse presets are available for star trail shots, light painting and moving vehicles, TimeWarp 3.0 at 5.3K for higher-resolution hyperlapse videos and new Enduro batteries, to extend recording times by up to 38% in the Hero 11 Black model.
The Hero Black 11 model offers the basic package mentioned above with similar body design to last year’s Hero 10 and the ability to capture up to 27 megapixel resolution photos.
The Hero 11 Black Creator Edition has the core features of the Hero 11 Black with additional features that enhance audio and video capture. The additional amenities includes a battery grip with built-in buttons facilitating one-handed operation and boosts recording time by up to four hours. It will also accepts an optional directional microphone through its external microphone inputs, an HDMI port to connect to external displays, an LED light lamp for low light recording and two cold shoe mounts to accept addition accessories.
The Hero 11 Black Mini is a lighter, more compact Hero 11 Black that omits the front-facing screen and some buttons to enable a more compact design for easier use on the go. Other than that, the Mini will be able to record content exactly as the standard Hero 11 Black using a simple recording button and small OLED display on top to view settings adjusted via the Hero 11 Mini Quick app.
