(September 28, 2010) Best Buy conducted its holiday preview press event today in New York City.  Included among the hot items for the fourth quarter  was the first Google HDTV, the Sony NSX-46GT1. HD GURU received a quick demo and snapped these exclusive photos.

The Sony NSX-46GT1 features a slim depth and appears to use LED edge lighting.  It has a chrome plated stand and a white back. The screen is 46″ diagonal (we expect other screen sizes to be offered). The Google demo utilized  (Update) a wireless USB Internet dongle a flash drive loaded with photos of screen simulations  connected to the rear jack pack. However, the Sony TV next to it had live working Google TV functionality and it was verified by the Google spokesperson taking our requests to go to specific websites and demonstrate other functions ,  (see photo after break).

In addition to the streaming content,  you can surf the Internet via Google’s Chrome browser controlled by Sony’s remote (not demoed) or an iPhone or Android smart phone, according to the Google spokesperson.

Other functionality includes a TV search. Type in the name of the program and the time and channel appears on the screen. When “Football” was entered in the program search box the games schedule with day, time and channel come up on the screen. Google was using a Dish Network receiver for the demo, though it is designed to work with all cable, phone and satellite providers .

The first photo shows some of the TVs streaming services available on the new Sony, below a screen view of the Google home page (on another demo TV using a prototype stand alone Google TV box). You can surf the net while watching a TV program via a window in the lower right hand corner.

Google previously announced a stand-alone box for existing HDTVs to be offered by Logitech, however they have not provide a release date.

Sony is expected to demo a new Blu-ray player with built-in Google TV on October 12th, 2010 at its press event in New York City. Stay tuned.
