Although it’s been steadily ramping up the addition of 4K Ultra HD movies to its library for a few weeks now, the Google Play store officially announced this week that it has added more than 125 Ultra HD movies to its selection of streaming movie and television programs.

Key lures among the announced additions are: Star Trek Beyond, The Secret Life of Pets, Ghostbusters, and Captain Phillips.

Like Google’s YouTube service, Google Play uses the Googel’s open VP9 compression scheme to stream 4K content. Many recent smart TVs now include VP9 decoding along with the now standard HEVC, both with HDCP 2.2 digital rights management. Supporting sets to start include: Sony Ultra HD Android TVs and 2016 Samsung 4K smart TVs with the newly added Google Play App.

None of the current selections are yet showing support for high dynamic range (HDR).
