Fujifilm unveiled Wednesday its new top-end pro-level X-T5 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera designed for high image quality at high speeds.
The X-T5 is the latest X Series camera to feature Fujifilm’s new back-illuminated APS-C size 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR imaging sensor and new X-Processor 5 high-speed image processing engine.
The new sensor offers a high number of phase detection pixels for accurate AF-S auto focus on a high-frequency subject, and in situations such as landscape photography and portraiture. The AF prediction algorithm also offers stable focusing in AF-C mode.
The camera is being introduced at a $1,699.95 suggested retail price for the body only or $2,099.95 for a kit with an XF18-55 lens or $2,199.95 for the body with an XF16-80 lens. The X-T5 will be available in a choice of black and silver colors and is expected to be available in late November.
For video, the camera will capture up to 6.2K/30p and 4K/60p resolution with 13+ stops of dynamic range using F-Log2, and support for ProRes RAW and BMD RAW with external recorder. Movies can be recorded internally at up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit color.
In addition, the 4K HQ mode oversamples 6.2K footage for superior 4K output, the company said.
For stills the camera’s 40.26 pixel X-Trans sensor can combine the benefits of new processing algorithms, a wide native ISO range that is extendable to ISO 125 and a new Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function to create processed images with up to 160MP, super high-resolution.
The Fujifilm X-T5 also provides up to 7.0 Stops of 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) which assists in gathering razor sharp images when the camera system continuously freezes 20 frames in a single click of the shutter. The dedicated software “Pixel Shift Combiner” can then digitally process these captured frames into a single composite image containing some 160 million pixels, the company said.
The X-T5 also features a 0.8x magnification 3.69-million-dot EVF viewfinder that is blackout free to 10fps.

The magnesium alloy compact body design is lightweight (1.23 pounds/557g) and provides a good grip to guard against eye position shift, and firmer stability for shorter eye sensor reaction time.
Images are stored using dual SD-card slots and the 3-inch 1.84-million-dot, three-way tilting LCD is designed to provide an easy way to capture shots from vertical positions or at waist level.
The camera offers long battery charge life even with the camera’s silent mechanical shutter speed of 1/8000th sec. 15fps with 500K cycles of durability and 35ms shutter lag time lag. The camera also features a maximum electronic shutter speed of 1/180,000 sec.
Other advanced features include a Subject Detection autofocus (AF) system that is capable of detecting animals, birds and a variety of other common subjects for tack-sharp motion images and an auto white balance system developed to assist photographers get accurate colors easily and quickly.
X-T5 also includes 19 Film Simulation modes, including “Nostalgic Neg.,” characterized by high
saturation and soft tonality. Film Simulation presets, which mimic photographic
film, can be used for various subject types and scenes. The X-T5 supports the HEIF image format, to deliver 10-bit image quality in files up to 30% smaller than standard JPEGs.
When combined with an ATOMOS HDMI device, the RAW video output from X-T5 can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps, Fujifilm said.
And when combined with Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12Gs, the RAW video output from the X-T5 can be recorded as Blackmagic RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to
29.97fps.
Optional accessories include the MHG-XT5 hand grip (specifically designed for X-T5) that aids
hand-held shooting when a large-aperture lens is mounted. The hand grip does not have to be
removed to change a battery or SD card. The MHG-XT5 grip can be used as a plate compatible with the Arca-Swiss quick release tripod mounting system.
