Panasonic said Monday evening that is will release a firmware update program supporting its Lumix S1H full-frame mirrorless camera to enhance its performance and usability.

The update, which was first discussed last September, is the result of a collaboration between Panasonic and Atomos, a global company that creates video equipment for professional film creators. The new firmware will enable the output of maximum 5.9K/29.97p and 59.94p 4K RAW video data over HDMI to save it as Apple ProRes RAW on the Atomos Ninja V 4K HDR monitor-recorder, the companies said.

The firmware is also said to comply with 3.5K Anamorphic 4:3.

“Panasonic commits to provide innovative solutions for professional film creation by enabling all S1H users to receive this firmware for free of charge,” a statement from Panasonic announcing the firmware update reads.

The program will be available from the Lumix Global Customer Support website beginning May 25, 2020.

The Lumix S1H ($3,997.99) was introduced as one of the first Full-Format cameras with the ability to record video at up to 6K/24p (3:2 aspect ratio) resolution.

The S1H was released globally in fall 2019. It has the ability to record video at 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio), and 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K, and was intended to combine the video quality of a professional camera and the high mobility of a mirrorless camera.

Panasonic introduced the S1H as “the world’s first full-frame digital interchangeable lens system camera with the ability to capture 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K video resolution.” The camera includes a 4:3 Anamorphic mode, to meet professional needs. High-resolution data capture by the S1H can also be used to create 4K videos with higher image quality or to crop images down in full 4K.

Another feature is the ability to capture images with rich gradation and a wide color space virtually equal to those of cinema cameras. The Lumix S1H features V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops.

The S1H will record V-Log footage by VariCam or the Lumix GH5/GH5S for wide contrast performance.
